Miley Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, was absent from the premiere of the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary” special in Los Angeles on Monday, despite appearing in the trailer.
The singer posed alongside her mother Tish Cyrus and sister Brandi, before being joined by their respective partners Max Morando, Dominic Purcell and Matt Southcombe.
Also in attendance at the premiere were Dominic’s two children with ex-wife Rebecca Williamson, Joseph and Lily-Rose.
In addition to Billy Ray, Miley’s sister, Noah Cyrus, was also missing. Miley’s siblings, Trace, Christopher and Blazon, also did not attend.
A representative for Billy Ray told Page Six that he and Noah were in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, recording a new single together that will be released on April 3rd.
For the special night’s premiere, Miley sparkled in a silver dress, which she paired with a crop top featuring her “Hannah Montana” character Miley Stewart.
She completed her look with a blonde wig similar to the one Hannah Montana previously wore.
After Billy Ray appeared at the reunion, he was noticeably absent from the red carpet. The two reunited after years of family drama.
Miley and the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, 64, became estranged in 2022 after divorcing Tish, 58, after nearly 30 years of marriage.
“Her parents’ divorce has put strain on her relationship with her father, and she has had difficulty communicating with him over the past year,” a source told E! October news. “She is hopeful that they can eventually repair their relationship.”
The rift deepened when Noah and Brayson skipped Tish and Purcell’s wedding in August 2023, where Miley was her mother’s maid of honor, instead choosing to go on a trip to Walmart.
Noah, 26, reportedly dated Purcell, 56, before Purcell became romantically involved with his mother.
The estrangement continued after Miley excluded her father from her 2024 Grammy acceptance speech after his song “Flowers” won Record of the Year.
“My mom, my sister, my boyfriend, my main gays because I look so great,” she said, referring to Tish, Brandi, Morando and her stylist, respectively.
A source told Page Six in January 2025 that Miley had “no interest” in repairing her relationship with her father and had “agreed” to publicly plead for her brother Trace to seek professional help after Trump’s disastrous performance at the Liberty Ball following President Trump’s inauguration.
However, Miley surprisingly reunited with Billy Ray to celebrate Blazon’s 31st birthday in May 2025. The “Battery Fly Away” singer posted a photo on Instagram of him and Blason next to Miley, who had her arm around Morando.
Miley acknowledged her family’s “dark decade” when she appeared on Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast in June 2025 and explained why the family didn’t see a family therapist.
“Just putting each other in a room to get counseling would have been a war,” she said of her family’s “really difficult…dark decade.”
The “Wrecking Ball” singer admitted that she had “tremendous loyalty” to Tish amid her divorce from Billy Ray, saying “half[of the family]didn’t even speak to each other at some point.”
Miley released an emotional song “Secrets” in September 2025, dedicated to her father.
“I wrote this song as a peace offering to someone I temporarily lost but always loved,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are the same thing.”
Billy Ray thanked his daughter for the song, writing, “Thank you @mileycyrus for the Secrets…from your heart to my song. The memories we made together mean the world to me and watching you soar with your music makes me proud every day.”
“Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special” will be available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu on Tuesday.
