Michelle Obama isn’t afraid to get a little flashy.
On Wednesday’s episode of the podcast “IMO,” which she shares with her brother Craig Robinson, the younger brother teased her sister’s new jewelry addition.
“What I’ve learned about you[since starting the podcast]is that you thought I didn’t notice that you were going to get your ears pierced,” she said, adding, “And now you’ve got new ears pierced.”
The former first lady revealed, “I had always thought about getting extra piercings in my ears, but I never really got around to it.”
She admitted that she had tried a second pair of earrings before having children. “But then[she]just got lazy and stopped wearing earrings.”
Turning to the younger generation, she was inspired by the changing trends in earstack, calling them “more of a collective, a shimmering constellation.”
Her intention was to “put a few in,” but once the process started she got excited and told the piercer, “Oh, put one in there, (put) one in there. Oh yeah, let’s try one in there.”
“That means I got 10 piercings at once,” she concluded.
While her brother noticed the bright addition right away, Obama’s husband took a little longer.
“Barack, it took him two days,” Obama laughed.
She recalled how the new addition only caught the former president’s attention after 72 hours, and the president claimed she wore her hair down to hide her flashy part. President Obama responded, “I don’t know. I sleep with you every night, dude, you understand?”
President Obama is currently promoting his new book, The Look, and candidly talks about the style expectations he had during his time in office and his newfound freedom since leaving office.
The former first lady, who appeared on the cover of People magazine this fall, said her recent decision to wear her hair in braids was “freeing”, adding, “They allow me to do it and it’s one less thing I have to think about. When I’m away from the public eye, I swim or play tennis, and braids represent that kind of freedom to me.”
“While I was in the White House, I didn’t know if this country was ready for that,” she concluded.
