The Mexican Academy of Arts and Sciences has chosen to compete for Pierre St. Martin’s acclaimed debut feature, “We Wall Do Not Mote” (“No Nos Moverán”) for the best international feature Oscars.
Produced by Varios Lobos’ Víctor Léy Cegui and Pablo Zimbrón, Black & White Drama recently won four of the prestigious Mexican Ariel Awards. It is also sent to represent Mexico at Goiyas, the Spanish Oscar equivalent.
The drama follows Sokoro, 67, a retired lawyer who is obsessed with finding a soldier who killed his brother during the infamous Tlatelolco massacre in 1968. This was when a university student protesting the upcoming Olympics was shot by the Mexican troops. Her relentless fixation influenced her relationship with her younger sister Esperanza (70) and her son Jorge (45).
One day, she receives this soldier an important clues that guide her. She decides to carry out an unusual operation to revenge her brother’s death, but there is a risk that her relationship with her family, her legacy, and even her own life is at risk.
Saint Martin said:
“The protagonist, based on his mother who survived many tragedy with humor, was a compass to understand that this drama had to be portrayed in humor in order to criticize the many sufferings that characters face, such as nostalgia and sadness.”
For lead actress Luisa Fuertas, who won Ariel for her performance, she said, “The scripts for Pierre St. Martin and Eaker Compean are popular not only in those who touched us in Mexico 57 years after that date, but also in Europe, Europe and Europe.
“We Are Not Impressed,” a more established filmmaker, among them, defeating nine other candidates by Rodrigo Garcia’s “Las Roquera.” Mexico’s first stop motion animation feature: “I Am Frankelda” “Hombres Integros” by Alejandro Andrade. “Corina” by Urzula Barba Hopfner and “Concierto Para Otras Manos” documentary by Ernesto González Díaz.
The photo, distributed by Nicholas Celis’ Pimienta film (“Rome”), has been limited to release and, according to Léycegui, won 1.5 million (about $75,000), and attracted 23,000 admission. A talk is ongoing on the SVOD platform, he said, adding that the release was limited to Arthouse Cinemas and performed better than other similar films.
“We Don’t Move” surprised us at every stage of distribution and exhibition. The project began as a debut feature simply to show Pierre that he really had something to show him that he had a strong voice as a director.

The Oscar International feature summary will be announced on December 16th, with the last five candidates announced on January 22nd. The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15th, 2026, while Goya, Spain, will be held on February 28th next year.
