Twenty years after the release of The Devil Wears Prada, Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway return to the world of high fashion and workplace politics on May 1st.
20th Century Studios has released a new trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 that provides a more detailed look at the upcoming sequel.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 follows Streep as Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, as she deals with the decline of print journalism and tries to find her footing in a dying industry. Priestley will be up against a character played by her former assistant Emily Blunt, who is now a powerful executive at a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestley desperately needs.
In the original “The Devil Wears Prada,” Hathaway’s character, Andrea Sachs, is a college graduate looking for a job in journalism in New York City. Sacks begins working as Priestley’s junior assistant, but struggles to balance work and personal life, endangering her friendships and relationship with her boyfriend. A commercial and critical hit, the film grossed $326 million worldwide.
Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Tracy Thoms, and Tibor Feldman will reprise their roles in the sequel, with Kenneth Branagh and Patrick Bramall playing Streep and Hathaway’s lovers, respectively. Additional cast members include Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, BJ Novak, Justin Theroux, Lady Gaga, and Pauline Chalamet. Broadway stars Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora will also appear, along with comedian Caleb Hearon. Adrian Grenier, who played Sax’s girlfriend Nate in the original version, will not be returning.
David Frankel, who directed the 2006 film, and Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original screenplay, will return for the sequel, along with producer Wendy Finerman. The film is executive produced by Michael Biedermann, Karen Rosenfelt and McKenna, and is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026 by 20th Century Studios.
