Meredith Averill, co-creator of “Locke & Key,” was brought to be the new showrunner for Amazon’s upcoming television series, “Fourth Wing.”
Based on the book series of bestselling “Empierian” Romantasy by author Rebecca Jaros, “The Force Wing” is set in the brutal world of Baszias Walk College, where there is only one rule of graduation or death. Although 20-year-old Violet Sorengail was always expected to lead a quiet life, she was sent down a totally different path when her mother, a military general, ordered Dragon Rider to join hundreds of candidates striving for effort.
Yarros’ “The Empyrean” book series began with the release of the New York Times bestseller Fourth Wing in May 2023, followed by the sequel “Iron Flame” in November 2023 and three books “Onyx Storm” in January. The title and release date for the planned fourth and fifth books have not yet been announced.
The “Fourth Wing” TV series, first developed in October 2023, is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. This project has not yet been ordered for the series and no cast is attached.
Averill will be joining Fourth Wing as a showrunner after signing as a showrunner in the summer of 2024, following the exit of Moira Walley-Beckett (creator of “Anne with an a” and author of “Breaking Bad”) in July.
In addition to Averill, additional executive producers for “Fourth Wing” include Jordan and President Elizabeth Laposo, and author Yarros. The quilter films Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and Athena Wickham will also be executive produced. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark are produced for Premeditated, a sister company to the “Fourth Wing” publisher. Executive Vice President of the Outlier Society of TV Stefano Agosto will acquire joint produce.
