The 2026 Golden Globe Awards kicked off red carpet season with a bang on Sunday night, showcasing two jaw-dropping naked dresses (Jennifer Lopez and, more surprisingly, Jennifer Lawrence) and a number of more subdued, sophisticated looks in classic black and white.
“I think there’s a good chance we’re going to start seeing color come back on the carpet for the granddaddy of them all, the Oscars,” Melissa Rivers told Page Six Style.
And while many of the night’s “clear” Fashion Police alum favorites, including Ariana Grande, Emily Blunt, Selena Gomez and Colman Domingo, wore black, white, or a combination of the two, there were a few looks that gave her a hard time, including Teyana Taylor in a Schiaparelli dress with a revealing thong and Jenna Ortega in a fringed Dilara Findikoglu.
Below, check out Rivers’ picks for the best and worst dressed at the Globes.
ariana grande
“That was one of my first big ‘wow’ moments because she was still wearing Ariana’s dress (she had a ponytail) and it was black. It sent a fashion message. I loved that she was like, ‘I’m still in black, let’s go.'”
emily blunt
“It’s what I call ‘painfully chic.’ It’s just beyond chic.”
selena gomez
“She looked so great. The Chanel was so vintage with the white and black and red lip. The whole package! Not a single hair was out of place.”
amanda seyfried
“A very modern Grace Kelly, a real movie star. She didn’t have much jewelry, it was simple and pretty. It worked.”
kate hudson
“She brought me a vintage Kate Hudson and I was like, ‘Welcome home!'” It’s just perfect. And Kate makes it seem as if everything is actually comfortable. She is one of the women who wears dresses. That dress doesn’t suit her. ”
dakota fanning
“There was a battle of the Fanning sisters. Elle is a fashion darling. She’s been doing fashion well since she was a little girl, but Dakota won last night. You can’t necessarily tell it in the photos, but when she moved, the fabric, the beading, the fit was breathtaking. It was a masterpiece.”
Colman Domingo
“He never looks like he’s trying, which makes sense for him because he has a sense of style and that works well for him. I think he’s now the standard for men on how to do a fashion-forward (look) right, even if he doesn’t go for something traditional.”
jennifer lawrence
“I’m tired of naked dresses. It never seems to go away and I need to retire it for a while. But I loved how everyone was like, ‘Oh my god, is that Jennifer Lawrence?'” It was very different for her, and I loved that she went in the opposite direction. ”
jennifer lopez
“She and Beyoncé do naked dresses better than anyone,[but this]just didn’t work for me. Sometimes the dresses just didn’t work for me! I thought the embroidery was really heavy, and that big mermaid hemline…I felt like she was saying, ‘Oh, I’m going to wear this.'”
Teyana Taylor
“When she came in from the front, I thought, ‘Done.’ Then when she turned around and put the bow on, I thought, ‘No.’ I can’t imagine Schiaparelli sending it that way. It felt like the stylist was saying, “Let’s put a little pin here.” For example, let’s put some lipstick on Mona Lisa, it might look a little better! ”
Parker Posey
“I just don’t understand it. It was too hard. There was too much going on.”
jenna ortega
“Goth…I don’t understand it. I don’t like it. I want to see her in a different way. I want her to surprise me in a good way.”
walton goggins
“The Walton Goggins I met was so nice, so nice, so genuine.[That gold shirt]literally hurt my soul last night. I bought socks in that color for the holidays because I thought they would be cute with loafers, but I haven’t worn them yet.”
