Melissa McCarthy will return as host of “Saturday Night Live” in December of this year.
This week’s episode revealed that McCarthy will be hosting the NBC sketch comedy series on December 6th with musical guest Dijon. This will be McCarthy’s sixth time hosting the show, and the first time she has led the show since 2017. She also appeared multiple times on the show as former Trump press secretary Sean Spicer, among other cameos.
McCarthy has been nominated for six Emmy Awards for her work on “SNL,” including winning the show’s Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series award in 2017.
Dijon will appear on the December 6th episode, making her SNL debut.
“SNL” recently turned the page on its historic 50th season, commemorated with a Peacock documentary series and a three-hour special featuring countless former cast members and A-list guests. Bad Bunny kicked off Season 51 in October with musical guest Doja Cat. Amy Poehler, Sabrina Carpenter, Miles Teller, Nikki Glazer and Glen Powell followed as hosts.
The iconic late-night sketch said goodbye to several cast members heading into Season 51, including Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, Devon Walker, and Michael Longfellow. This season’s SNL cast also welcomes Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Cam Patterson, and Veronica Slawkowska.
“SNL” was nominated for seven Emmy Awards in 2025. Spinoffs such as “Anniversary Celebration,” “SNL50: Homecoming Concert,” “Beyond Saturday Night” and “50 Years of SNL Music” also received a total of 23 nominations.
