A cut-in sketch for the Feb. 28 episode of “Saturday Night Live” featured a parade of opportunistically canceled celebrities who used last week’s incident at the BAFTAs to blame their bad behavior and speeches on Tourette syndrome.
Tourette syndrome advocate John Davidson was seated near the stage at the BAFTA Awards on February 22nd, where he was in attendance to support his nominated biopic, “I Swear,” about his life. Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo’s presentation also included racial slurs, which led Davidson to apologize and BAFTA to express regret for not editing out the words in the original broadcast.
The “SNL” sketch includes Andrew Dismukes as Mel Gibson, Ashley Padilla as J.K. Rowling, show host Connor Story as Armie Hammer, Sarah Sherman as “Real Housewives” alum Jill Zarin, Louis It featured a parade of celebrity impressions playfully played by James Austin Johnson as C.K., Cam Patterson as Ye, Kenan Thompson as Bill Cosby, and “Weekend Update” anchor Michael Che. Himself.
“I also suffer from Tourette’s disease, which explains a lot of the things I’ve said and yelled over the years,” said Dismukes, who plays Gibson. “Am I proud of what I said? No. But I’m so proud that you all know it was because of Tourette’s. Unfortunately, I’m not alone.”
“Hello, cuties, I’m Armie Hammer. A little-known fact is that one of the most common side effects of Tourette’s disease is cannibalism,” Storey said. “I’m casually DMing a girl and all of a sudden Tourette’s takes over and I’m typing something like, ‘I’m literally going to eat you up,’ and she’s like, ‘LOL, what?'”
“Mr. Tourette’s isn’t just saying offensive things. It’s a long-standing obsession with things like transgender rights, and it could be a deep anger that someone who was born with a cane in their pants would want to remove it and replace it with a Horcrux,” Padilla said. “But as you can see by now, it was all the Tourettes’ fault, not a bet with Bill Belichick to see who could destroy their legacy faster.”
