Meghan Trainor decided to begin her weight loss journey after developing gestational diabetes.
Speaking to Kayla Thomas on iHeartRadio’s KIISFM, the singer explained the inspiration behind her new song “Still Don’t Care.”
“I just posted who I was and there was a lot of hate online and people were like, ‘Why are you skinny now? You were the ‘all about bass’ girl.'” I came out around age 19 and have been on a fitness journey ever since I got healthy, which started when I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes. ”
According to Medline Plus, this type of diabetes is diagnosed during pregnancy when the body cannot produce enough insulin to cope with pregnancy hormones, leading to high blood pressure.
She went on to say that she wanted to be the strongest so she could tour and lift her children out of their cribs “without pulling[me]back.”
“Right now I’m strength training at the gym three times a week. I’m very health conscious, but right now I’m obsessed with hormones and my gut,” she explained.
“I just want to feel good because it’s hard to do this job if I don’t feel good. But being skinny was so frowned upon that I felt confused and rattled.”
Traynor, 31, gave birth to son Riley in 2021 and Barry Bruce in 2023 with husband Daryl Sabara.
After welcoming her second son, Traynor started looking slimmer and slimmer, shocking fans by losing weight in early 2025.
Shortly after, she admitted that she began a health journey that included using Munjaro to lose weight.
The “Dear Future Husband” singer later underwent breast augmentation and lift surgery.
Since then, she’s flaunted her toned physique on stage and on red carpets like Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday celebration.
Ms Traynor was forced to clap back at critics who “attacked” her last week over her 60-pound weight loss.
“After giving birth, I literally started taking care of my health at the highest level for the first time in my life. I’ve never felt better and looked incredible,” she said on “Entertainment Tonight.”
“I’m feeling good and that’s when people attack me,” she added, noting that the voices of criticism had become “loud” and “sneaky.”
“I take care of myself,” she repeated. “We have to find a way to not be affected by that.”
The singer has released a new song, “Still Don’t Care,” in which she addresses the same haters who criticized her when she was “too fat” and now that she’s “too thin.”
“You can say what you want, you can say you don’t like me very much/You can tear me apart but I sleep well at night (Woo),” she sings at the beginning of the song.
“When you say I’m too much, you’re probably right/That’s the same thing I’ve heard all my life/When you say I’m too fat, then I’m too skinny/And I want to stand out, but I want to blend in.”
