Meghan Markle and Prince Harry spent the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, attending the premiere of the documentary they executive produced, Cookie Queens. The film follows four Girl Scouts who sell cookies. Deadline spoke to the Duchess of Sussex and asked her if she had seen her daughter, 4-year-old Lilibet, joining the Girl Scout troop. Duchess Meghan herself was a Girl Scout when she was a child.
Meghan declined to give a definitive answer, instead revealing how she is coping with the decision as a parent. “I think we’ll continue to explore whatever feels right,” she said. “Alyssa[Nahmias, Cookie Queens director]is the mother of a daughter. I think it was incredibly special for both of us working on this project, as parents and mothers, to be able to see something that our daughters would enjoy watching.”
The Duchess spoke more candidly about her experience as a Girl Scout and how much she loves the organization. “We have really great values built in from the beginning,” she said. “I was a Girl Scout and my mom was a troop leader, and I think the values of friendship and dedication to a goal, as seen in Cookie Queens, really reflect how they stick to what’s important to them and don’t give up. And confidence is an essential value that comes with being a Girl Scout.”
She joked that although she had sold cookies, it wasn’t on the same scale as the girls she chased in the movie. “I think we did a really good job,” she said, adding, “We didn’t have the perks and leverage that girls use these days, like social media and Venmo and QR codes. It’s really about charm and smiles, and who doesn’t like Girl Scout cookies? That’s a very easy sell.” Her favorite cookie, she said, is Thin Mints. “I think in general, Thin Mints are liked by most people.”
