“The Hucks” stars Meg Stalter and Paul W. Downs enjoyed themselves on the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet Sunday afternoon in bright orange vinyl outfits that mimicked the outfits worn by Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner at the premiere of Chalamet’s new film, “Marty Supreme.”
Stalter and Downs wowed the audience with their commitment to Hami. Downs wore it cross-bag style with a ping pong paddle attached to the strap. At the New York premiere on Dec. 17, Stalter wore a giant cross necklace reminiscent of Jenner’s. Set in the 1950s, Marty Supreme revolves around an everyday man’s quest to become a world table tennis champion. Chalamet and his girlfriend Jenner turned heads last month in bright orange outfits, extending the orange theme that has been used in the A24 film’s marketing.
Downs, co-creator and executive producer of “Hacks” along with Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, said his goal was to “enjoy” the awards. Critics Choice, which honors film and television, nominated Hux for Best Comedy Series and Downes was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy. Chalamet and “Marty Supreme” are also nominated.
“We get to meet the people who make the movies we love. We just thought, ‘Let’s have fun,'” Downs told Variety on the carpet on the way to the awards ceremony at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Mr. Downs noted that the vinyl material of his suit and Ms. Stalter’s long gown were perfect for the heavy rains that flooded Southern California for days.
“It’s waterproof,” he said. “It’s great in the rain, the water just slides off the dress,” Stalter added.
Downs gave “Marty Supreme” two thumbs up and said he “loved” the film, directed by Josh Safdie. Ms. Stalter admitted she has not yet seen Ms. Jenner, despite being friends with her.
Ms. Stalter and Ms. Jenner have a tradition called “Sushi Friday.” “We go out for sushi at least once a month,” she said. Chalamet usually doesn’t join them. “It’s girl time,” Ms. Stalter explained.
Downs was asked if Chalamet would be invited to appear on “Hux.”
“I don’t know how he’s going to play, but we’re going to space him out,” Downs asserted.
