The cast of Chicago Med knows how to create drama, but off-screen, many of the show’s stars are happily settled and raising young children on their own.
The medical drama series, part of NBC’s One Chicago universe, premiered in 2015 and is currently in its 11th season. Since its inception, the show has told some amazing stories about the staff at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.
At the end of Season 8, series regulars Torrey DeVito (Dr. Natalie Manning), Yaya DaCosta (Nurse April Sexton), and Brian Tee (Dr. Ethan Choi) left the show.
Nick Gehlfuss, who plays Dr. Will Halstead, returned after a brief hiatus during which he gave birth to his second child. But he’s not the only working parent busy on set. Luke Mitchell also became a first-time father earlier this year.

Nick Gelfus’ two children

Gehlfuss is known as “Dr. Will Halstead” on set, but his most rewarding role is being a father of two in real life.
His first child was born in 2021 with his wife Lillian Matsuda. According to her Instagram, the family will expand again in 2024.
As he previously told PEOPLE, the private couple had a “big wedding in Ohio” on May 13, 2016.
Oliver Platt’s three children

Oliver Platt plays Dr. Daniel Charles, head of the Department of Psychiatry, and has been with Chicago Med since its inception in 2015.
He married Mary Camilla Bonsall Campbell, a publicist, in 1992, according to the New York Times. They have two daughters and a son, all of whom they raised away from the spotlight.
“It may sound silly, but I love spending time with my kids and my wife,” Pratt told SouthJersey.com in 2000. “It’s easy to get caught up in the crap of show business. My family is my foundation. They give perspective to all of this.”
Stephen Weber’s two children

Stephen Webber, who has played Dr. Dean Archer since season 6, is the proud father of two sons.
He has children Jack and Alfie with ex-wife Juliette Hohnen. According to a UPI report at the time, the two divorced in 2013 after nearly 20 years of marriage.
For most people, Weber refrains from posting about her children on social media. But recently, a family of four got together to celebrate Father’s Day.

Mitchell is a new father!
The Chicago Med star gave birth to his first child, a son, with wife Rebecca Breeds in February 2025. The couple got married in 2013.
“[Parenthood]changes you on a cellular level. It was such a beautiful experience to share with Luke,” Brees told TV Week. “He’s my best friend and a very natural and confident father. We take care of each other and the baby.”
Mitchell is best known for playing the role of emergency department doctor Dr. Mitchell Ripley since Season 9.
Marlin Barrett’s two children

Marlin Barrett is best known to Chicago Med fans as emergency department nurse Maggie Lockwood.
Off-screen, the actress and pastor Gavin Barrett, whom she married in 2009, welcomed twins Joshua-Gillet Barrett and Anne-Nuriyya Barrett in 2021.
The following year, it was announced that Barrett would be taking a “temporary” hiatus from the series after being diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer.
Speaking to PEOPLE in 2024, Barrett said she was in “complete remission” after undergoing 30 rounds of chemotherapy and surgery.
