Matti Healy, lead singer of The 1975, has been dating model and influencer Gabrielette Bechtel since late 2023. In an interview with Highsnobiety published in March, Bechtel spoke candidly about his feelings about the constant speculation about them on the internet.
“I don’t mind. I think it’s interesting. Good luck. Enjoy. Everyone has a lot to say,” she laughed. “You don’t know me at all.”
Perhaps Healy’s most famous relationship began just before he started dating Bechtel. Between May and June 2023, the singer had a brief and memorable date with Taylor Swift. The musicians first met in 2014, and although dating rumors have swirled for years, the two never officially started dating. Social media is currently buzzing about how Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, is actually about her ex-boyfriend Healy.
So who is Healy’s latest lover? Here’s everything you need to know about Bechtel’s relationship with Healy.
Healy and Bechtel first partnered in September 2023.
The timeline of Healy and Bechtel’s relationship begins in September 2023. Several photos obtained by People show the two kissing, hugging and holding hands as they walk together in New York City.
Since then, the two have been spotted showing PDA several times, including being seen arm in arm in New York in November.
Things appear to have gotten serious between the two by February 2024, when Bechtel was spotted spending time with Healy’s family. The Daily Mail shared several photos of Healy and Bechtel heading to the theater to see their mother Diane Welch’s play The Gap. Healy’s brother and father, Tim Healy, and his wife were also in attendance.
Previously, in October 2023, Welch showed support for Bechtel on her Instagram. After the model posted a photo wearing only a G-string thong and leather apron from the R&M Leathers collaboration, Healy’s mother commented: “That’s exactly what I want to look like when it arrives!!👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️.”
The two got engaged in 2024.
On June 11, the couple announced they were engaged after attending Charli XCX’s Brat Show in Brooklyn. Bechtel was first spotted wearing the ring in May, according to People magazine, and shared a photo of herself wearing the ring. A black diamond is placed in the center of the ring, surrounded by white diamonds.
“You’re such a brat to get married in 1975,” she wrote in the caption.
Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, confirmed the engagement on Loose Women the following day.
“I’ve known for a few weeks that Matti was engaged,” she said. “They went to see their friends Charlie and George in New York[last night]and I woke up this morning to the fact that I posted on Instagram. Instagram Official… He’s engaged to Gabriella Bechtel, aka Gabrielette. Black Diamond, that’s what he made for her… I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier. She’s everything I want in a daughter-in-law. I’m thrilled.”
They appeared in public as an engaged couple in July 2024.
The couple were photographed having a quiet conversation outside the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Friday, July 5, at the O2 Silver Clef Awards ceremony. As Healy smoked a cigarette, Bechtel leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. In 1975, the frontman wore a navy blazer and jeans, while the model wore a black turtleneck dress and black heels. At the awards ceremony, The 1975 won the Best Group award.
The two were spotted on a rare public date night in January 2026.
Continuing to look strong in the new year, Bechtel and Healy were spotted on a date in Los Angeles on January 9, 2026. They were photographed walking arm in arm to Wild’s restaurant in Los Feliz for dinner. Both men were dressed casually in jeans, with Healy wearing a dark cardigan over a white T-shirt and Bechtel wearing a blazer lined with gold buttons.
Bechtel is a model and dancer.
In a May 2023 interview with Vogue magazine, Bechtel said she was born and raised in Orange County and originally moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a professional ballerina.
“I was, and still am, convinced that I would become a professional ballerina,” she said.
But her career plans changed when she was cast by MTV to dance in the music video for Blood Orange (Dev Hynes).
“I posted some dance videos on Instagram and someone contacted me and said Dev was having an open call,” she told Highsnobiety. “We had a fun few days of rehearsals, started filming the music video, and then we got the call that we got cut. I didn’t appear in the music video, but we did all the rehearsals. I think at some point, my foot is set on it.”
Her modeling career began soon after.
“I was a hard-working unpaid model for a long time,” Bechtel revealed.
Currently, Bechtel models for brands such as Heaven by Marc Jacobs, Diesel, Miu Miu, and Betsey Johnson. Most recently, on April 15th, she graced the cover of Homme Girls.
Bechtel is also a musician.
Bechtel is versatile. In 2019, she was selected by Charli XCX to be the lead singer of the band Nasty Cherry in the Netflix documentary series I’m with the Band: Nasty Cherry.
“I met[Charli XCX]on the set of a music video and ended up partying together for a few years,” she recalls. “I didn’t see her for a while, and then she reached out and said, ‘I’m doing this project and I was trying to cast the singer…'” Bechtel told Highsnobiety.
Unfortunately, Nasty Cherry is currently on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We couldn’t do anything together, we couldn’t tour for our second EP, we couldn’t make music together because we were in different parts of the world, so we decided it just wasn’t going to work anymore,” she revealed. “I always miss it. It ended so abruptly.”
Bechtel’s cooking videos have gone viral on TikTok.
Bechtel also has a presence on social media. Apart from her 782,000 followers on Instagram, she has amassed 382,300 followers on TikTok, where she mostly posts cooking videos. In May 2023, she posted a video recreating Erewhon’s grain-free vegan blackout cake, which received 3 million views.
According to Highsnobiety, Bechtel said she got her love of cooking from her Mexican mother and Swiss-German father, both of whom cooked dishes based on their respective cultures.
“We ate dinner together as a family every night, so there was always fresh food. We never had takeout,” she recalls. “We had a bunch of Bon Appétit magazines lying around, so[my mother]was always trying out new recipes. When I got home, my mother would open the magazine and say, ‘I’m going to make this tonight,’ and she would perfect it. I would help her prepare it. So I grew up watching my mother try things.”
She also told Vogue that she is currently writing a cookbook and hopes to eventually open her own cafe.
“Not many people know this, but I’m really interested in interior design, so I want to open spaces where people can have the best possible experience,” Bechtel said.
Bechtel is 28 years old.
Bechtel was born on July 28, 1997, which makes her a Leo. Healy, 38, was born on April 8th and is an Aries.
