Matthew Lillard practices his career counseling skills.
Ahead of Freddie’s five night release in 2, the actor reveals how he played a role in welcoming his former Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich into the world of evil animatronics.
“As Scott (Corson) was considering who to cast this role, he started looking around and thinking like who he was – a kind of middle-aged man,” Lillard tells people in an exclusive interview, referring to the creator of Freddie’s original five-night stay in the game.
Lillard, 55, continued to remember what Corson had asked him. “He’s a dream. He’s the sweetest guy around him. He’s talented and cares his fans deeply.”
Beyond the history of the horror genre, depicting the murderer behind the ghost face mask in the 1996 film Scream, Lillard says he and Ulrich (55) also have something in common with Cowson.
“I think we both approach fandom with love, admiration and gratitude,” explains the actor who appeared in the ad for the Coroguard Test of Accurate Science.
“And I think he really talks to Scott because he has the same affiliation as the fans. I think that’s one of the reasons he brought it to Skeet. And I think Skeet knocked it out of the park. He’s great in the movies.
What can fans expect? First of all, Lillard bullies Corson and film director Emma Scott, who “hears what fans had to say.”
“We want more jumping horror,” he emphasizes. “We want to sit in the audience and not only pass on the world, but also feel emotion. We want to feel the film just like we felt the game.”

He added that he recently saw the film himself, Lillard gave it a seal of approval.
“I think they did an incredible job of doing that,” he says. “And I think fans will lose their hearts. I think the film is really amazing.”

Josh Hutcherson – who portrayed the protagonist Mike Schmidt in the first film alongside Lillard, Elizabeth Rail (Vanessa) and Piper Rubio (Abby) in the first film – teasing details about the project itself during his July 24 appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.
“Mike and Abby experienced a lot in their first film,” the 32-year-old Hutcherson told the crowd at the time. “Mike is just trying to find a stable life. He wants to live a lovely, calm, normal life. That can’t happen. Poor Mike.
Beyond “More Animatronics” and “Bigger Set Piece,” this time, the Hunger Games star assured fans that the second film has more depth and sense.
“The bond between Mike and Abby is very strong,” he added. “And they get to a place that’s even stronger.”
Five nights at Freddie’s 2 will be released in theaters on December 5th.
