Rob David has been promoted to senior vice president of animation at Mattel Studios. David previously served as the studio’s Vice President of Content Creative, Television. In his new role, David will now oversee the development, creative and production efforts for adult and children’s animated television series across Mattel Studios’ broadcast and streaming platforms, as well as digital content, including the company’s YouTube service.

David will continue to report to Robbie Brenner, Mattel Studios President and Chief Content Officer. David joins Jennifer Breslow, head of television (unscripted, live action), and senior film executives Darian Lanzetta and Tom McNulty, completing Brenner’s creative leadership team.

Previously, he led the development and production of global brands such as Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, Barbie, Uno and Magic 8 Ball. His animation work includes the TV shows “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” and “Hot Wheels: Let’s Race,” as well as the upcoming stop-motion 3D animated “Pingu” series.

“I first learned to tell stories by playing with Mattel toys, and I’m honored to take on this role at such a pivotal time for Mattel Studios,” David said in a statement. “Mattel is a toy box of storytelling, and I’m passionate about expanding its reach through bold, innovative animated series and digital content. I look forward to working with our talented team, showrunners and partners to bring new creative visions to both adults and the next generation of fans around the world.”

Brenner added: “Rob is a creative force who has been instrumental in shaping the next chapter of Mattel Studios’ animation strategy. Starting his career as an animation writer, he brings a deep understanding of character-driven storytelling, strong command over our brand, and a strong commitment to children and adults. “His creative foundation and his leadership make him the ideal person to drive our expanding animation vision as we continue to deliver high-quality content that resonates with audiences around the world.”
