Matt Lauer is reportedly aiming to return to media eight years after being fired from Today.
The disgraced news anchor “wants to return to the media scene in some capacity, if not on television,” a source told People on Monday.
“He talked about it with some people,” the source added.
Lauer, 67, was infamously fired from NBC in November 2017 for “inappropriate sexual conduct.”
The network had received “detailed complaints from colleagues” about his behavior and had reason to believe “this may not be an isolated incident.”
Page Six exclusively reported that the former TV personality is also accused of sexting female NBC staffers, sending lewd messages and publishing photos of women, including young interns.
Shortly after Lauer was fired, two other women came forward with complaints against him. One of them claimed that the anchor called Mr. Lauer into his office for sex and that he “felt helpless because he didn’t want to lose his job.”
The day after the department announced his firing, Lauer publicly apologized, but made sure to point out that some of the accusations were “not true.”
“There are no words to express my sadness and regret for the pain I have caused others through my words and actions,” he said in a statement. “I am truly sorry to the people I have hurt.
Lauer added that while some of the things said about him are “not true or have been portrayed incorrectly, there is a degree of truth in these stories that is disconcerting and embarrassing.”
He and ex-wife Annette Locke also broke up in the wake of the scandal, and their divorce was finalized two years later.
Since his fall from grace, Lauer has lived a quiet life in the Hamptons.
The source also told People that nearly a decade later, she is “still angry” at “the way she was treated in the industry” and “people she thought were friends.”
For the past eight years, the source said, he has focused on being a “good father” to Jack, 24, Romy, 22, and Tyce, 18, who lives with Roque, and “spending time with his kids.”
Earlier this year, former CNN journalist Don Lemon predicted Lauer’s return to the news industry, claiming that “the public misses him.”
