Mary Shalaby has joined the cast of an untitled NBC comedy pilot from Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredisi.
She will play Raya, who is described as “the terribly indifferent receptionist at Grant Taggart’s PI agency.”
Specific plot details regarding the project are still unknown. The official logline simply says, “This show continues the proud tradition of Private Eyes in Los Angeles that began with Philip Marlowe.” Jake Johnson leads the cast as Mickey, a talented private investigator who is “smart, cynical, and heartbroken, but tries to pretend he’s not,” and works for Garner Taggart (Keith David), a “tough guy with a somewhat outdated worldview,” whose son Mitch serves as the agency’s lead PI alongside Mickey. The cast also includes Jane Levy as Fay, a “clever” investigative journalist.
Shalaby is a New York-based comedian and digital creator who posts character videos on social media and collaborates with brands like Friday Beer, Glaza, Shake Shack, Nerds Candy, and Rowing Blazers. A recent graduate of Syracuse University, she regularly opens for comedian and creator Connor Wood on his “Fives and Friends” tour and hosts a monthly comedy show called “Mary Shalaby’s National Dog Show” at Brooklyn’s Union Hall. Shalaby is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Goor and Del Tredici, best known for their work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will serve as writers and executive producers on the project, with Akiva Shaffer serving as director and executive producer of the pilot. The studio is Universal Television.
