Martin Short has postponed his comedy tour with Steve Martin following the death of his daughter.
Short’s late wife, Nancy Dolman, and his adopted son, Katherine Short, died Monday at the age of 42, according to the Los Angeles coroner. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
All February dates for “The Best of Steve Martin & Martin Short” have been postponed, and it is unclear when the tour will resume. Short and Martin’s show opened Friday at the Miller Highlife Theater in Milwaukee, and another show was scheduled for Saturday at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Steve Martin and Martin Short show originally scheduled for Friday, February 27th in Milwaukee has been postponed. Tickets will be accepted for a future rescheduled date,” the Milwaukee venue’s website says. Orpheum’s website has a similar message.
The duo’s tour dates are set through October. The next stop is Dar Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, on March 13th, but there are no announcements of delays at this time.
Katherine Short graduated from New York University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender and sexuality studies, and then earned a master’s degree in social work from USC. Before opening her own private practice, she worked at UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, according to People magazine. Short, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010, and Dolman also had two sons, Henry and Oliver.
Martin Short’s representative said in a statement on Monday: “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Catherine Hartley Short.” “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
