Martin Scorsese will host a special Easter episode of “Saints,” the Fox Nation series about the Virgin Mary.
The episode, titled “Mary,” will premiere on the streamer on March 27. The film begins with Scorsese sharing personal details about what Easter meant to him as a child growing up in New York’s Little Italy neighborhood. The legendary filmmaker then explores the storied life of Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.
According to the description, the special episode is “an in-depth look into the life of the Virgin Mary, from the moment of her election by God, through her exile, sacrifice, and grief at the end of Jesus’ life, to her abiding faith. The special explores Mary’s unwavering devotion and the strength that defined her as a mother and one of Christianity’s most revered figures.”
Premiering in November 2024, “The Saints” is produced and directed by Matti Leshem and written by Kent Jones. Scorsese presents, narrates and executive produces the series, which he developed for Lionsgate Alternative Television. Additional EPs include Julie Yorn, Craig Piridian, Rick Yorn, Lisa Frechette, and Christopher Donnelly. Along with Lionsgate, the series is produced by Sikelia Productions, Weimaraner Republic Pictures, and LBI Entertainment.
The series focuses on the lives of various Christian saints, including Joan of Arc, John the Baptist, St. Sebastian, Maximilian Kolbe, Francis of Assisi, Moses the Black, and Mary Magdalene. Each episode is fueled by a discussion between Scorsese, Catholic priest James Martin, and writers Mary Karr and Paul Ely about that week’s chosen saint.
