Mark Ruffalo plays Koi on the return reported as the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Variety reported in August that he was appearing as the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it was unclear at the time whether the deal was closed to recreate his fan-favorite superhero. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ruffalo said his return remains unknown to him as well.
“I don’t know! I’m still waiting to hear,” replied Ruffalo when ET expressed his excitement to “return to the Hulk” for the new “Spider-Man” movie. “I haven’t read the script yet. If that happens, it’s incredible.”
“I grew up with this, and it changed my life in the best way,” Ruffalo added. “Every time it’s this new director and a new world…it’s very exciting. There’s nothing else. It’s probably television, but TV shows don’t change the whole world from one director to the next. That’s exciting about Marvel.”
Ruffalo’s final appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was his supportive role in the 2022 Disney+ series, Sheharuk: Lawyer. His last Marvel film was 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is the fourth independent film centered around Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger. The Netherlands are back with franchise flagship Zendaya, who plays Peter Parker’s girlfriends MJ Jones Watson and Jacob Batalon as their best friend Nedleys. John Berntar’s Punisher has been confirmed to play a role in the tent pole, but newcomers include Sadie Sink, Trammel Tillman and Liza Colon Zaya. The film is previously directed by Destin Daniel Cletton, who dabbled in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “The Legend of Shanki and Tenlengu.”
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is scheduled to open in theaters on July 31st by Sony.
