Margot Robbie studies Rachel McAdams’ ‘Notebook’ audition

Margot Robbie credits Rachel McAdams with helping her become an A-list movie star. In an interview with BBC Radio 2 for the Wuthering Heights press tour, the Barbie actor and three-time Oscar nominee revealed that she studied McAdams’ viral audition for The Notebook before her own audition to get into the right headspace.

“Before I went to the audition, I had seen Rachel McAdams’ audition for ‘The Notebook.’ She’s so good and she’s so charming and real and just the way she is,” Robbie said. “I watched it a lot before I went to audition, and I thought, ‘Okay, just try to be as good as her.'”

When asked if Robbie actually got the role from McAdams’ ‘Notebook’ audition, he replied, “Technically, I would say it was because of her that I got the role, because I used to watch her audition all the time.” It’s just a commitment. I always watched it to remind myself that I had to give my all in the audition room. And I got to work with her on ‘About Time.’ I was a total nobody at the time, but she was very nice to me and my brother. I’ll never forget how kind she was to me. I just love her. ”

McAdams landed the role of Allyson “Ally” Calhoun opposite Ryan Gosling in The Notebook, and the pair’s chemistry helped propel the 2004 film to become one of the most iconic romance films of the century. Robbie didn’t reveal which of McAdams’ movie audition tapes helped her succeed, but it seems like quite a few.

Robbie and McAdams both appeared in the press this winter to promote their new releases. McAdams starred in Sam Raimi’s “Send Help,” which was number one at the box office in its first two weeks of release. Robbie will headline Wuthering Heights opposite Jacob Elordi. The Warner Bros. film will be released in theaters on February 13th and is aiming for a No. 1 box office debut with approximately $50 million.
