Whatever a movie star’s background, Margot Robbie gets it.
The Australian beauty stepped out on the red carpet at the Wuthering Heights premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, portraying her character in a dramatic way.
Robbie, who plays Katherine Earnshaw in Emerald Fennell’s film, wore a striking crimson and black Schiaparelli dress. The dress consisted of a close-fitting strapless black lace sheer bodice and a dramatic flared skirt in shades of black and red.
She wore her hair in an elegant updo, accessorizing with Elizabeth Taylor’s Taj Magyar necklace and Fred Leighton ring, given to the Cleopatra star by Richard Burton on her 40th birthday in 1972.
When asked by Variety about the inspiration behind the ensemble, Robbie explained, “It’s Wuthering Heights.” What would it look like if you made a dress from Wuthering Heights? This idea that it seeps into the ground and into the dress. Something like dark lace and dark corruption.
“Our attire will evolve throughout the press tour to cover some of the seats and ideas in the film,” she added.
The film, which will be released on Valentine’s Day, will co-star Robbie with Jacob Elordi, who played Heathcliff in the Emily Bronte adaptation and appeared with Robbie on the red carpet.
The “Euphoria” actor wore an all-black ensemble that included a jacket over a black shirt and pants, accented with a black scarf tied around his neck and a black cummerbund.
Earlier in the day, Robbie turned up the heat in a bright red snakeskin Dilara Findikoglu outfit.
The stunning look featured a seashell-covered bra, a corset, and a barely-there miniskirt that showed off the width of her thighs and dropped low in the front.
She added a giant pear-shaped diamond choker and wore a custom Cece Jewelery ring featuring two intertwined skeletons that Robbie gave Elordi.
Robbie, who pioneered the method dressing trend in 2023’s Barbie, has already begun her Wuthering Heights-like makeover. She kicked off her promotional tour with a stop on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” wearing a completely sheer black lace McQueen dress and heels featuring rosary bead embellishments.
She favors bell sleeves, a nod to Elizabethan films, and also wears mini Roberto Cavalli shoes and sky-high Christian Louboutin heels.
Stylist Andrew McMull explained the inspiration behind Victoria Beckham’s two feather-covered looks – one in a black corset and one in a very angelic minidress – quoting from an 1847 book.
“As she rolled over, her feverish embarrassment became even more frantic, and she tore the pillow with her teeth… She seemed to have found the childish pastime of plucking the feathers from the rent she had just paid and arranging them by type on the sheets,” he wrote on Instagram.
We can’t wait to see their romantic and increasingly passionate looks.
