Marcello Hernandez and Skylar Gisondo are headed to a faraway land.
The two actors will be joining the cast of Shrek 5 as Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle. Mr. Hernandez is best known for his work on “SNL.” He also appeared in “Happy Gilmore 2” and is set to star in the new comedy “72 Hours.” Gisondo played Jimmy Olsen in last summer’s “Superman,” and had supporting roles in “Liquorice Pizza” and “Booksmart.”
Universal Pictures will release DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek 5” on June 30, 2027. The series’ vocal cast, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, will reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. Zendaya also joins in on the demon fun as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter Felicia. Rebooting Shrek was a priority for the studio and also for lighting department head Chris Meledandri, who worked on Despicable Me, the Minions series and even the Super Mario Bros. movies.
Shrek 5 is directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn. Vernon’s directorial credits include Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2, where he also provided the voice of the Gingerbread Man (also known as Gingy). Dawn worked on the second and third Shrek films as a writer and artist, and as head of story on the fourth. Dorn also provided the voice of Rumpelstiltskin.
The film will be produced by Shrek Forever After’s Gina Shay and Meledandri. “Shrek 5” is co-directed by Brad Abelson (“Minions: The Rise of Gru”).
The four “Shrek” films have grossed more than $2.9 billion worldwide and inspired a Broadway musical, an immersive tourist destination in London, a spinoff series featuring Puss in Boots, and even events and attractions throughout Universal Studios parks.
Hernandez is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Patti Felkner. Gisondo is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment and Jackoway Tierman.
