Mandy Patinkin will be joining the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s new God of War series.
He will play the role of Odin, the “strongest Earth God.” According to the character description, “Odin, the All-Father, is neither physically imposing nor particularly godlike. But appearances can be deceiving. When it comes to seeking prophecies, Odin is paranoid, manipulative, and dangerous. He will do anything to prevent Ragnarok, the end of the Norse. He is a formidable antagonist of Kratos. ”
Based on the popular PlayStation video game, God of War tells the story of father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother Faye. Through ancient adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son how to be a better god, and Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better man.
Patinkin joins previously announced cast members Ryan Hurst (Kratos), Max Parker (Heimdall), Teresa Palmer (Sif), and Olafur Dari Olafsson (Thor). He is best known for his roles in “The Princess Bride,” “Homeland,” and “Chicago Hope.”
Two seasons of “God of War” have been ordered on Amazon, and pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver. Ronald D. Moore is the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E.O. Toye (Shogun, The Boys, Fallout) has been signed on to direct the first two episodes.
The show is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Other executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Kizilbash, Jeff Ketchum, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Aragon.
