The man who grabbed Ariana Grande at the premiere of the movie Wicked: For Good in Singapore last week has been sentenced to nine days in jail.
BBC News reported that Johnson Wen was found guilty of public nuisance in a Singapore court on Monday. As shown in a viral video, the 26-year-old Australian jumped over a barricade at the Asian premiere of the musical sequel on Thursday and lunged towards Grande, who was protected by co-star Cynthia Erivo.
According to local media, Wen has pleaded guilty to the incident. The court heard on Monday that Mr Wen had twice tried to invade the red carpet. The first time was when he attacked Grande, and the second time after he was escorted out by security. “I will never do it again,” Wen told the judge.
Wen often posts on social media about befriending celebrities at events and premieres. He has previously performed on stage at concerts by Katy Perry, The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, and more. The day after the “Wicked: For Good” premiere, Wen posted on her Instagram Story that she was “arrested and then released.”
Although Grande has not publicly commented on the incident, Erivo alluded to it during a screening in Los Angeles over the weekend. “We’ve been through a lot,” Erivo said of the film’s press tour. “I mean, shit, even last week, let’s be honest.”
Grande, Erivo, and the rest of the “Wicked: For Good” cast will make their final stop in New York City on Monday night ahead of its Nov. 21 theatrical release.
