Netflix India is challenging the animation myth with a new series, “Kurukshetra,” depicted from the ancient Indian epic “Mahabharata.”
The series focuses on 18-day climactic 18-day battles, examining conflicts through the perspectives of 18 central warriors, tackling moral dilemmas and personal conflicts in wild wars. Netflix plans to release the show in two installments, each of which is nine episodes.
This project illustrates the significant investments by streamers in the Indian storytelling tradition. Anu Sikka is produced by Sikka under Tipping Point Banner alongside Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare, and serves as Creator and Conceptualizer. Ujaan Ganguly handles writing and instructions for missions.
The production created the lyrics for the series and animated the famous literary voice for the Oscar-winning poet and lyricist Gulzar.
“Kurukshetra was Netflix India’s first mythical anime, and Netflix India’s series head Tanya Bami said, “We’ll put together everything you’re looking for in great storytelling. “Mahabharata” is not always epic. It is a mirror of our choice and dilemma, and is as relevant as today as it was centuries ago.
Creator Sicka added: “The Battle of Kurkshetra is unforgettable and timeless. It is a clash of duty, fate and moral choices. Through this animated series, we create a visual story to make this Indian Natrix to build the power of timeless wisdom and visual storytelling.”
“Kurukshetra” will be released on Netflix on October 10th.
