TLC’s Chile has been “dramatically” affected by backlash over its claims to be part of the MAGA movement.
It was recently revealed that the “No Scrubs” singer donated to Donald Trump’s re-election campaign and retweeted a vicious post about Michelle Obama.
She said they were all coincidental and not Trump supporters. However, the response from fans was great.
“She takes this seriously and this should not replace traditions that include the empowerment of Black women,” a source close to the TLC singer told Page Six. “She’s not that kind of person.”
“She is not actually MAGA. She voted for President Obama twice. There is no MAGA community around her. She sees MAGA as (January 6th insurrectionists),” they continued.
Chiles came under fire last week after it was revealed that she had reposted a horrifying conspiracy theory about the former first lady. Our sources said they were humiliated by the repost and issued a statement expressing deep respect for the Obamas and condemning the MAGA community.
“This has affected her so dramatically that she prays with her prayer group every day,” they added.
Social media warriors, influencers, and celebrities like DL Hughley and Jemele Hill didn’t support it. Some accused her of backtracking to protect TLC’s upcoming tours with Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue (whose members are dealing with their own dramas).
Her response seemed to do more harm than good, with internet sleuths exposing every MAGA-related person she followed, every post she liked, and every donation she made to groups associated with the Trump movement.
She tried to explain her donation, saying, “I didn’t read the fine print. I thought I was supporting anti-trafficking causes and veterans’ causes.”
“Her relationship was based on conservative values. … She doesn’t believe in hate. Her message was honest and real. She doesn’t feel good about these things,” the source said, adding that the singer is not tech-savvy and doesn’t own a laptop.
Another source said they believed Chile’s statements to be true, but accused the religious singer of being willfully ignorant. “I’m not shocked (she wasn’t aware),” they said.
Meanwhile, music insiders have pointed to sluggish tour ticket sales in major markets such as New York, and are making noise about the damage the MAGA association could do to box office revenue.
“The timing couldn’t be worse. Look at what’s going on in the world. Even MAGA people are mad at MAGA,” one source said.
And although ticket sales are slow in New York, I hear that over 150,000 tickets have already been sold. It was sold out in six markets, including LA.
Representatives for the singer and TLC could not be reached.
