Lizzo thinks it’s about time to show off who she is.
Years after starting her “weight loss” journey and dropping 16 percent of her body fat, the singer performed in Houston on Friday night, showing off her slimmer body in a sparkly pink minidress.
As seen on Instagram, the songstress wore a dress that read “Lizzo Bowl,” which she accessorized with closed-toed black heels, a diamond necklace, and silver metallic nails.
Lizzo, who has lost about 60 pounds since 2023, captioned the post, “Me 💜U Houston!”
The 37-year-old musician has been on a years-long weight loss journey, sharing an essay on Substack in November titled, “Why Is Everyone Losing Weight? What Should We Do? From the Heart, Those Who Lost Weight.”
Lizzo began losing weight in the wake of the public harassment and hostile work environment scandal, and confessed that the ordeal left her with “severe suicidal thoughts.”
She says that she “used to binge-drink when she was sad and depressed,” but that after her career exploded, “I didn’t feel like that anymore.”
“For me, it was never about being ‘thin.’ I don’t even think it’s possible for me to actually be considered “thin.” Always stretch and maintain your feminine skin as it supports your weight. And I’m proud of it. Even if the world didn’t want me to,” the Grammy winner explained.
“I was tired of being overweight and losing my identity,” Lizzo said, adding that she knows her experience is not unique to her.
“We’re in a time where big girls are getting small because they’re tired of being judged, and now those big girls are being judged for being small by the very communities they once empowered,” she argued.
“There’s nothing wrong with living in a bigger body,” the songwriter added. “There’s nothing wrong with being fat. But if women want to change, they should be allowed to change.”
Last April, Lizzo denied rumors that she used drugs such as Ozempic and Munjaro to get her slim frame.
But after a few months, she tried short-term weight loss drugs.
Lizzo also credits her weight loss to avoiding “sweets” in the morning and choosing “very tasty” foods instead.
“If you’re going to eat something sweet, you need to have something like carbohydrates. I have almond butter and toast. So everyone’s body is different. Find what works for you,” she explains, adding that she believes “scientifically, the only thing that works across the board is calories in and calories out.”
As Lizzo said, “That’s how the human body works.”
