Lizzo is baring it all.
The ‘About Damn Time’ chart-topper admits she didn’t lose her virginity until she was in her 30s, and lied about it for years to save face as part of a youthful pact surrounding her first Grammy Award.
“I was a late bloomer. I was lying for a long time,” the 37-year-old confessed to hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Battalucco of the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast.
After the hosts tried to guess when it happened, Lizzo (real name Melissa Jefferson) spilled that it was 2020.
“Isn’t that strange?” she said. “I never thought about it…When I was younger, I made a promise that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy.”
As the room erupts in commotion, Lil Dicky can’t help but ask if he would have finally given in if it wasn’t for the trophy.
Lizzo laughed it off and clarified that “it wasn’t Grammy night,” but admitted it happened right after she won her first Grammy in 2020.
That night, she won three awards: Best Pop Solo Performance (“Truth Hurts”), Best Urban Contemporary Album (Deluxe Version of “Cuz I Love You”), and Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Jerome”).
She was also nominated for Best New Artist, Record of the Year (‘Truth Hurts’), Album of the Year (‘Cuz I Love You’ Deluxe), Song of the Year (‘Truth Hurts’) and Best R&B Performance (‘Exactly How I Feel’).
Before that milestone, Lizzo said she was bluffing through awkward social moments head-on, including a painfully relatable memory of her student days at the University of Houston.
“I feel like a weight has been lifted off my chest right now,” she admitted. “I was so embarrassed. I was in a girl friend group, and one night we were all hanging out with girls, and I was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’
“And I remember thinking, ‘No!'” she continued. “I remember being so embarrassed. I said, ‘I love you D’…and that held me back for a little while.”
As it turns out, even Lizzo’s first kiss was a disaster.
“You wouldn’t know it. It was a religious thing for me as well. For example, when we were teenagers in church, we all made a promise not to do anything before marriage,” she explained. “And I was so scared. No one wanted to kiss me.”
When it finally materialized at age 21, it didn’t quite live up to the hype.
“I was actually very upset about it,” Rizzo said. “It was New Year’s Eve and he pushed it on me. I was really angry and thought, ‘My first kiss was ruined.'” I was so angry. ”
Lizzo’s love life has come a long way since then.
The singer is currently a couple with Mike Wright, whom they met in 2016 when they were co-hosts on MTV’s Wonderland, and they went public with their relationship in 2022.
“I love Mike very much. 100 percent,” she told Howard Stern in 2022. “There’s no one else I’ll spend the rest of my life with.”
Earlier this month, Lizzo showed off her noticeably slimmer figure in a sparkly pink minidress during a performance in Houston.
The star has lost about 60 pounds and 16 percent of her body fat since 2023 as part of her ongoing “weight liberation” journey.
