Disney has found a star for its live-action adaptation of the popular animated film “Rapunzel.”
Teagan Croft will take on the role of the iconic long-haired princess Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim will play the cunning thief Flynn Rider.
Australian actress Croft is best known for playing White Raven in the DC superhero universe series Titans.
Other credits include “True Spirit” and “The Osiris Child.”
Manheim, the son of Golden Globe winner Camryn Manheim, rose to fame playing Zed in the hit Disney Channel movie series “Zombies.” He also currently stars in the Paramount+ teen drama series School Spirits.
He is no stranger to the stage, playing Seymour in “Little Shop of Horrors” Off-Broadway last year and the Apostle Peter in “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl.
Manheim also won runner-up on Dancing with the Stars in 2018, alongside professional Whitney Carson.
Michael Gracey, director of the hit musical “The Greatest Showman,” will direct the live-action “Rapunzel” from a script by Jennifer Katin Robinson, the screenwriter of “Do Revenge” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Kristen Barr will serve as producer and Lucy Kitada will serve as executive producer.
The original 2010 film grossed approximately $600 million at the worldwide box office, and featured Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi’s singing talents as Rapunzel and Finn.
It also spawned the successful Disney Channel series “Rapunzel’s Adventures in the Tower.”
“Tangled” features several memorable songs by renowned composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin”) and lyricist Glenn Slater, including “When Will My Life Begin?,” “Mother Knows Best,” “I’ve Got a Dream” and the Oscar-nominated hit “I See the Light.”
No word yet on who will play the deliciously villainous Mother Gothel, voiced by Broadway icon Donna Murphy in the animated film.
