Lionsgate has sold its streaming business in South and Southeast Asia, Lionsgate Play, to Rohit Jain, the executive who developed the service during his eight-year tenure as president of Lionsgate Play Asia.
The studio revealed the deal on Tuesday. Jain will leave Lionsgate and take over ownership of the streaming platform, while the studio will continue its theatrical distribution and television production operations in both regions.
Jayne has signed a multi-year licensing agreement that gives it the rights to use Lionsgate Play’s branding and access the streaming service from the studio’s content catalog.
Lionsgate Play maintains active operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and the Maldives. The service primarily utilizes a B2B2C delivery model through long-term partnerships with telecommunications providers. In India, the platform is integrated with various aggregators such as JioHotstar, Airtel Xstream, and Amazon Prime Video channels. The company is running a content slate for 2026 that includes 100 premieres scheduled for that year, with a particular focus on expanding its library in the Indian region with 25 new titles across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
“We would like to thank Rohit for his outstanding leadership in building and expanding Lionsgate’s business in India over the past eight years,” said Lionsgate Chief Operating Officer Brian Goldsmith. “Under his stewardship, the Lionsgate brand has further resonated with audiences in South and Southeast Asia, and Lionsgate Play has emerged as a distinctive premium streaming platform in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital entertainment markets. Rohit is an entrepreneur with a deep understanding of the Asian landscape and has the expertise and experience to lead Lionsgate Play into an exciting new phase of growth.”
“We are deeply grateful to John Feltheimer and Brian Goldsmith for giving us the trust and freedom to build Lionsgate’s India business and transform Lionsgate Play into the premium streaming platform across Asia,” said Rohit Jain. “Lionsgate Play has established itself as a leading destination for Hollywood content in India and is now positioned to expand far beyond that and create a differentiated, future-ready streaming platform for the region.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
