“Lilo & Stitch” premiered in theaters on May 23rd. The film follows a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo (Maia Kiroha), who becomes friends with an unidentified blue alien who collides from space with Earth. Stitch quickly becomes Lilo’s best friend. Lilo is a strange exile in the community and lives with her sister Nani (Sidney Agdon). The two find themselves hunted by an extraterrestrial Earth who wants to take Stitch back to their planet.
“Lilo & Stitch” was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who directed the 2021 A24 stop-motion film “Marcel the Shell with Shoel.” The remake also marked Kealoha’s acting debut, starring as Nani alongside Sydney Agudong. Jookiba and Cobra Bunce recreated the roles of Amy Hill, the original voice actors of Amy Hill, Tia Carreere and Jason Scott Lee, as well as live action adaptation roles.
“Lilo & Stitch” opened at the huge $182.6 million at the domestic Memorial Day weekend box office, helping to set records alongside Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossion – The Final Reckoning.” The film became the first Hollywood release to hit $1 billion at the Worldwide box office in 2025.
