Square Enix will reveal the end of the story of Life is Strange characters Max and Chloe with Thursday’s release of Life is Strange: Reunion. Without giving away any major spoilers, the video game actors who played the duo can’t say much about the ending of the story, other than their personal experiences playing Max (Hannah Tell) and Chloe (Leanna DeVries), ostensibly at the end.
“While we were making the game, it weighed heavily on us that this was the last time we would play Max,” Hannah Tell told Variety in an interview last month ahead of the release of the new Life is Strange game. “It’s hard to let her go, and it’s hard to understand that I gave all of my life experiences, my personal traumas, my pain, my love, my joy, and I related everything I went through in my life to her life and portrayed her story the best I could. So I just focus on how grateful I am that I was able to do it in the first place. And I don’t want to be too sad or get caught up in the fact that the game is over. I had to focus on my belief that I could finish making the game. It was definitely nice to be done and able to focus and work to the best of my ability, and I’m sad that it’s coming to an end, but as you all know, this will be a live-action show that will reach even more people than before.”

Tell is correct. Amazon recently cast Maisie Stella as Chloe and Tatum Grace Hopkins as Max in the live-action TV series “Life is Strange.”
“The bond between these characters will have an unprecedented impact on millions of people,” Tere said. “There have been many Superman actors, and I’m sure there will be many more Max and Chloe, but playing Max Caulfield was the greatest honor of my life and acting career, and I’m so grateful. It meant everything.”
Tell played Max throughout the Life is Strange video game series, and DeVries took over the role of Chloe after original actor Ashleigh Burch left the role during the 2017 voice actor strike.
“I don’t know if I was prepared for the end, mainly because of the Chloe arc of this movie,” DeVries teased. “It’s funny because every time I finished a game in this series, like Before the Storm, I thought Chloe wasn’t going to come back. And then I did the facial motion capture for the remastered collection. And I thought, okay, she’s probably not going to come back. And I’m really glad that we got to do that at least one more time. I don’t think I ever thought that this was the end of what was going on. I think I was just happy to be there.” ”

Developed by Deck Nine Games, this finale picks up after the events of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, with Chloe’s return tied to Max’s ability to shift timelines. Max is back with her signature rewind powers. New features have evolved, including the ability to dive into a Polaroid photo and restart an event from the moment it was taken. Meanwhile, Chloe grows into her role as Drugstore Makeup’s touring band manager, bringing her trademark ability to give advice and an unfiltered attitude to an investigation whose access is limited by Max’s academic position.
The game respects the weight of player choice in the original version, allowing players to define whether Chloe survived the Arcadia Bay storm and the nature of their relationship (friends or lovers).
“It was so great to be able to further develop and explore Max and Chloe’s relationship. They’ve come into their own as more mature people who’ve spent time apart, as different people with different experiences, and as people with a shared common trauma,” Tell said. “It was really rich material to explore. They’re each other’s soulmates, whether they’re lovers or friends. So spending more time together gave us a chance to think about a monumental relationship that was apart for a while. When we get back together, we’re both changed. And are the promises we made to each other then still the promises we’ll continue to make to each other forever, because we’ve become different people.”
DeVries was excited to not only return to co-star with Telle to complete Max and Chloe’s story, but also to play as both Max and Chloe, as Life is Strange: Reunion offers unique features for Life is Strange fans.
“Knowing that Chloe would not only be coming back, but also working with Hannah, was a huge deal,” they said. “It was incredibly thrilling and I’m really, really grateful to be back. I never thought Chloe would come back, especially after we finished filming ‘Before the Storm,’ except for a little cameo or something.” But knowing that you’re playing both Max and Chloe in this game, and I’m playing opposite Hannah, it’s a very, very big deal.”
