James Gunn appeared on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show, and said he was “starting filming” the sequel to “Superman,” “Man of Tomorrow,” around April 2026. Warner Bros. has already dated a comic book tent pole on July 9, 2027. This will be two years after the release of “Superman.”
“This is about Lex Luther and Superman having to work together to some degree against a much bigger threat,” Gunn teased his sequel for the first time. “It’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s just as much a Rex movie as a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Holt. I have something to do with Rex’s character.
“Superman” has successfully launched Gunn’s new DC universe. This continues with “Peacemaker” season 2 on HBO Max, followed by the 2026 film “Supergirl” (Gunn says Lady Millie Alcock, who leads Millie Alcock, said, “Maybe it’s the best casting I’ve ever done in my entire life.”
Gunn’s “Superman” introduced David Coren Sweatt as the Steel guy, while Nicholas Holt as Lex Luther. Superman, which has grossed $614 million at the box office worldwide, is the top comic book film of the year.
The director announced “Man of Tomorrow” on social media on September 3rd. In his announcement, the writer-director included an image of a comic book of Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his warsuit. In DC Comics, Rex creates suits in Superman’s strength, abilities and order. The teaser image suggested that Rex and Superman would once again face off, but now it appears that Rex is using his warsuit.
Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Theslav announced in August that Gunn will return to write and direct a follow-up to “Superman.”
