Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone and independent Irish drama ‘The Christie’ were among the winners of the 2026 Irish Film and Television Awards announced in Dublin on Friday.
Brendan Canty’s “Christie” (not to be confused with Sidney Sweeney’s boxing drama of the same name) entered the night as the top nominated film with 14 mentions and delivered in the major races, winning Best Picture, Best Director, Best Casting, and Best Editing and Best Supporting Actor for Jamie Ford. The film follows a young man who leaves the adoption system and seeks independence.
In other film categories, “Hamnet” won the International Film Award, with Oscar nominee Jesse Buckley as Best Actress, Paul Mescal as Best Supporting Actor, and Maggie O’Farrell and Chloé Zhao as Best Screenplay. Other Oscar nominees notified in the International Best Actress race ahead of Sunday’s BAFTAs included Leonardo DiCaprio, who played a former revolutionary in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, and Emma Stone, who played an executive who may or may not be an alien in Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia.
At the same time, Eanna Hardwick won Best Actor for Saipan, and two-time nominee Kerry Condon won Best Supporting Actress for Joseph Kosinski’s F1.
In the television category, “Blue Lights” won Best Television Drama, and Ailvé Kogan won Best Original Screenplay for “Trespass.” Anthony Boyle won best actor in a drama for House of Guinness and Laura Petticrew won best actress for Trespass. Chris Whalley won Best Supporting Actor for “The Young Offenders,” and Alison Oliver won Best Supporting Actress for “Tusk.” Luisa Haaland received the Rising Star Award.
“Christie” and “Saipan” led the nominations heading into the ceremony, with “Saipan” winning 12 categories. The ceremony also marked a record number of women nominated in the directing category, with seven nominations across film and television.
This year, Ciaran Hinds will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
