Lamar Odom is in rehab after being arrested for drunk driving earlier this month.
The retired NBA athlete made a “personal decision” to enter a 30-day treatment program at iRely Recovery to “reset and focus on his health,” manager Gina Rodriguez told Page Six.
“After the recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address the triggers he had been dealing with,” Rodriguez said. “He is choosing to take full responsibility and be proactive about his health.”
“Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy and positive way,” she continued.
According to its website, iRely Recovery helps people who struggle with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders “find balance, achieve their own recovery, and cultivate new lives geared toward health and success.”
The former Lakers star, 46, is seeking help to quit marijuana because he fears his smoking will lead him back to hard drugs, his manager told TMZ, which first reported the news.
The father of three was arrested and charged with drunk driving in Las Vegas on January 17th.
In addition to the DUI charge, he also faces two traffic violations in connection with the incident, TMZ reports. He was charged with driving over the limit at more than 41 mph and improper lane change/lane maintenance violation.
Odom has publicly battled drug addiction in the past.
He famously survived a near-fatal drug overdose when he was found unconscious at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada in October 2015, but later claimed he had not taken the drugs voluntarily that night and believed the drugs had been “smuggled into” his drink.
The incident left Odom in a coma, leaving his then-wife Khloé Kardashian to care for him.
Kardashian initially filed for divorce from Odom in December 2013, but the divorce papers were temporarily rescinded due to a health emergency, but on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians that aired last February, she revealed that she punched Odom in the face after learning he was using drugs again after overdosing.
“I punched you in the face and shattered everything in that house,” she recalled.
When Odom claimed he was “not thinking” when he broke his sobriety, Kardashian fired back behind her back, saying he was “conscious enough to get a phone to call a drug dealer.”
Back in May 2021, Odom said he was using ketamine to stay sober and receiving small doses of the anesthetic under supervision.
“I was going to rehab and doing other things, and ketamine came into my life at the right time,” he shared on “Good Morning America.”
“It feels great,” he continued at the time. “I’m alive, I’m calm, I’m happy.”
