Kylie Kelse tearfully revealed what she learned about her past miscarriage on her husband Jason Kelse’s birthday.
In honor of October being Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month, Kylie was candid about finding out she miscarried her first baby in 2018.
“When I went through a miscarriage, I felt like many people came forward to support me and offer words of encouragement and love, so I wanted to share some details,” she shared on Thursday about her “Not Not Gonne Lie” podcast.
“So they also made it clear that they have experienced losses. It’s interesting that people sometimes experience losses to open up their own things,” Kylie added.
Kylie, 33, said she and the former Philadelphia Eagles player, 37, started “trying to acquire a family” and took her first pregnancy test in August 2018 a few months later.
The former field hockey athlete detailed that he was “very wary about talking to people outside of my in-person circle.”
“By the way we went to London, I was supposed to be 12 weeks. We were there to pretend we were taking a photo and say we were expecting them, and the point was to surprise Jason’s mother (Donakels) and dad (Edquelse),” she recalled before she began to stop her tears.
The couple surprised the family with baby news while in the UK and later spoke to their brother Travis Kelse when they returned to Cleveland.
“All of these interactions were recorded for memory purposes,” she shared.
When the couple left their trip abroad, Kylie said she went to the 13-week appointment and doctors said they couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat in the fetal Doppler.
“It felt like everything was in slow motion, and they couldn’t find a baby Doppler,” she recalled.
“Oh, there’s no heartbeat. I couldn’t find it because there’s no one.” … They estimated the baby had stopped developing between them, I think it was nine to ten weeks,” the four moms shared.
“Essentially, I had what you called a miscarriage you missed. That means your body didn’t realize that pregnancy was no longer viable.”
Kylie had to take a break to prevent herself from crying, but said the day she learned of her miscarriage was Jason’s 31st birthday.
“It was Jason’s birthday, so that was around the time. I called my mom and told her I couldn’t tell Jason because it was his birthday.
“It seems so ridiculous because obviously I’m going to tell my husband what happened, and I did. And it was tough for both of us.”
Due to what happened in their first pregnancy, the couple who tied the knot in April 2018 did not share that they were pregnant with their eldest son Wyatt until 20 weeks later.
“For consecutive pregnancies, I waited until I was at least 16 weeks,” Kylie said of the other three children: Eliotte, 4, Bennett, 2, Finley, 6 months.
“I Googled almost every week, and the percentage of babies that can survive makes it sound really dark. I literally did it for Finn,” she shared.
At the end of the chat, Kylie provided support to other women who may have experienced this heartbreaking loss.
“For those who have experienced loss and are still going to meet some of the little people, I’m sorry it won’t hurt,” she said.
“It will never leave you. It will stay with you with just yours. Whether you have a loss in six or 13 weeks, that loss is real. I think it’s important to understand the people around you what you are going through and who is in the struggle you feel you have.
