Kylie Jenner is known for going overboard when it comes to major fashion moments. However, sometimes people misread the dress code.
Recently, the lip kit queen explained why she chose to wear a glamorous gold leaf dress with cutouts at Hailey and Justin Bieber’s 2019 wedding celebration.
“I think people were a little upset that I went all out,” Jenner told Vogue, referring to her one-shoulder dress by Australian design duo Jayton Couture.
“But they didn’t care, I don’t think so,” she added, miming to pick up the phone. “Haley, if you have any problems, call me,” she laughed.
The Kylie cosmetics mogul then explained why she wore this stunning metallic dress, which almost stole the spotlight from Hailey’s stunning custom-made off-white lace bridal gown from Virgil Abloh.
“I would never wear this to someone’s wedding now,” the reality star confessed to the camera. “But I think people were under the impression that they were going to give it their all. And I loved the look.”
Justin and Hailey’s lavish, star-studded wedding in South Carolina took place in September 2019, following a civil ceremony in September 2018, and their youngest Jenner revealed she thoroughly enjoyed the soiree.
“I actually had the best night ever,” she told Vogue. “I was the last person to leave the wedding.”
At the time, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians faced backlash after she was photographed modeling a golden Jaton Couture piece that featured a seductive thigh-high slit and dramatic pleats of foil-like fabric.
She styled her luxurious look with matching gold Stuart Weitzman stiletto sandals, an Elizabeth Stone Jewelry butterfly hairpin, and a crystal-encrusted Judith Leiber Couture butterfly clutch.
The skirt of her gorgeous, eye-catching gown was adorned with delicate butterflies.
“Coming to a wedding trying to look better than the bride…just rude,” one Instagram user wrote at the time, according to the Daily Mail.
On X (formerly Twitter), another person wrote, “I think they should be more modest at weddings other than theirs than the bride.”
One person called the move “disrespectful,” while another wrote that they would “call the police” if Jenner wore a spotlight-stealing design at their wedding.
Jenner and Lorde Wizard, both 28, have been friends for years and are often spotted hanging out together, so it’s clear there’s no harm in the obvious fashion faux pas.
Most recently, Bieber turned heads at Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics pop-up event in West Hollywood on Friday.
The model wore a strapless black dress with a chic belt, while Jenner wore a bubblegum pink latex dress and a matching pink wig, reminiscent of her colorful “King Kylie” days.
Sure, it’s hard to keep up, and even the Kardashians have their fashion faux pas, but Kylie Jenner is proving it’s a race worth racing.
