Kyle MacLachlan’s son, Karum, was “disgusted” by his father, Tiktok. Now, the teen is “a little more accepting,” the actor recently told people.
Five years ago, now 66 years old, McLachlan loved storytelling from the big screen to Tiktok’s small (cell phone-sized) screen, and now has a dedicated follower. Sometimes he nods to past roles, from Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks to Trey McDougal in Sex and Town Trey McDougal.
Nostalgia plays a role in his online fame, but the star also has fingers on his pulse.
In June, the actor had a vision of Tiktok set in Lord’s “What happened,” but he starts in her wardrobe and looks a lot like his teenage son’s. Callum, 17, was highly mandatory.
“I say I need some kind of pants or something and he sews things. He makes pants that kids listen to me today – the kids wear them today,” McLachlan told people earlier this year as he chatted about his Lyft campaign. “Anyway, they’re pretty baggy.”
“He said, ‘Yeah, here, dad, you got this, this and this.’ There he wardrobes for me for the video,” said Dune Starr, who shares columns with his wife, Desiree Gruber.
And tormented by wide legs perfect for playing with roads, the jeans worked very well, earning comments on Tiktok like “Buggy Jeans Go Hard Diva.” Another declared that the actor was dressed “like a cool high school kid.”

McLachlan was also feeling herself in her jeans. “I said, ‘Oh, yeah, these actually look pretty good, do you know?’ So funny,” he said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘Well, maybe I’ll start wearing baggy pants.’ ”
Custom Jeans are not the only work that I borrowed from Callum for Tiktok videos. “In fact, there were a few more,” the Portlandia alumni revealed. Among the “borrowed” items were glasses and one of the teenage hoodies, he recalled.

“He has an exceptional fashion sense,” the proud dad added. “It’s very specific. He’s on the cutting edge of things.”
The wardrobe assist shows a slight change in Karam’s attitude towards his father, Tiktok’s fame. Shortly after the actor first began growing his online audience, he told people in 2021 that the 12-year-old was “embarrassing with my tiktok.”
“He says, ‘Dad, don’t do it.’ Sometimes he gives me a thumbs up, but often it’s a crying dad’s post,” the Blue Velvet star was joking at the time.
Now, Callum has changed his songs a bit. “I think he’s been accepting a little more,” McLachlan told people in June. “He’s actually pretty good.”
“He’ll get comments from kids at school, I know, ‘I saw your dad’s video,’ you know, usually it’s positive,” the actor said. “He navigates it pretty well.”
