Kristin Cavallari was once caught discussing adult topics by her school-age sons’ friends, which made her reconsider what she wanted to talk about on her podcast.
“A year ago or something, when I was dating a younger guy, their friends said they saw him and I doing drinking games or something on a podcast, and they saw some sexual stuff we were talking about,” Cavallari said of her sons Camden, 13, and Jackson, 11.
Discussing her intimate life with ex Mark Estes, the Uncommon James designer said on today’s episode of the Let’s Be Honest podcast that the incident “made[her]feel like, ‘Hey, you’ve got to be careful what you’re saying.'”
She called it “a real eye-opener” and a “wake-up call” that “really gave[her]pause” as a single mother.
“At the end of the day, I don’t care what Jax and Camden think of me. They’re my kids,” she told guest Rachel Bilson during the episode. “But I can’t say anything that will affect them or their friends.”
The 39-year-old “Laguna Beach” alum said she has since “found a way to say something, not just say it.”
The mother-of-three, who also has daughter Saylor, 10, with ex-husband Jay Cutler, 42, dated the much younger Estes, now 26, for several months in 2024.
A source told Us Weekly that the former couple did not share the same long-term goals when they split in September 2024.
“As their relationship started to get more serious, issues started to surface,” a source said at the time. “They continued to discuss the future, but could not agree.”
Estes had wanted to “settle down and start a family” “from the beginning,” while Cavallari was “very happy with her life and family” after previously welcoming three children.
“Kristin wasn’t sure if having another child was on the same page,” a source said at the time, noting that the 13-year age difference was also a “huge factor” in their decision to separate.
“The fact that they are at different stages in their lives was a deciding factor in the deal,” the source said.
As for her children, the reality star revealed last August that her two youngest children are close with their mother, with Jackson and Saylor still spending “one night a week” in her room.
