Kristen Bell ignored any discussion of her “tone-deaf” anniversary post during a playful appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
The actress kept things light on Thursday, focusing on promoting Season 2 of her hit Netflix show “Nobody Wants This,” and hinting at a few things viewers can expect from the newly released season.
Bell, 45, declined to discuss anything about her marriage to husband Dax Shepard, but she did reminisce about the summer trips she and Fallon took with their respective families.
“Can I tell you, not only is it a super fun trip, but you’re my favorite guest to meet there,” Bell chimed in to Fallon. “I’ll tell you why, because you’re such an inspirational guest. You have a way of expressing life as an event that gets to my bones.”
She then shared a funny memory from her trip where the late-night host showed up to karaoke wearing an “Evel Knievel costume.”
Despite avoiding talking about Shepard during interviews, Bell gave Shepard the “key to a successful relationship” during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy” on Thursday amid all the backlash.
“I like being married to an actor. We understand each other’s ups and downs, excitements and frustrations,” she explained to host Andy Cohen.
“We’re both creative, so we can get deep into random conversations and feel like we’re creating something together.”
Bell also emphasized the fact that she had “chosen the right person” as her life partner. She chose the “Parenthood” star because she knew they would “make this work” together and be willing to “always compromise.”
“I’m so glad I chose my husband because he’s always willing to grow. I don’t like the idea of finding the right puzzle piece for me, because you have to be the puzzle piece for someone else,” she continued.
“We will have no checks and balances because we will realize, ‘It’s not me against you, it’s us against the world.'”
The Good Place alum married Shepard in October 2013 and the couple have daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10.
The “Veronica Mars” alum made headlines earlier this week with an Instagram post that some called “incredibly tone-deaf.” Her caption celebrating her and Shepard’s 12th wedding anniversary left followers furious.
“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me, ‘I will never kill you. Many men have killed their wives at some point. I have a strong motive to kill you, but I will never kill you.’ ❤️,” she wrote alongside a photo of her and her husband sharing a warm embrace.
Many of her critics pointed out that she was downplaying the murder during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“This is a very sad and insensitive statement considering it’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month and thousands of women are losing their lives at the hands of men they trusted…” one user pointed out.
“Kristen, there’s no way you’re posting this during Domestic Violence Awareness Month 😭,” one wrote in disbelief.
Even the true crime show Dateline joined in on the chat, commenting that she had been “screenshotted.” National advocacy groups also accused her of downplaying domestic violence in her wedding anniversary post.
“There is nothing funny about domestic violence ‘jokes’ that trivialize the very real fear, trauma and pain that millions of victims and survivors face every day,” a representative from the National Network to End Domestic Violence told Page Six in a statement Tuesday.
However, a few supporters defended the star, calling the critics “too sensitive.”
The “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” star has yet to deal with the viral backlash. Since then, she has limited her comments on social media.
