Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd seem to have one of Hollywood’s best and most long-term relationships, but the journey to marriage bliss wasn’t always easy. Here we look back at their relationship over the past 16 years.
2008
After meeting in 2007, the couple was first opened to the public in early 2008, taking a holiday and attending a Hollywood party together.

2009
The following year, the couple appeared together in Rome in Rome in a Roman comedy, with Bell being opened about their relationship. In an interview with Women’s Health, Bell talked with Shepherd about creating a “safe zone.”
“I’ve learned the need for healthy communication. How important is it to talk about your deepest, darkest fears and emotions,” she said. “Your partner should hear your most embarrassing anxiety, because if you say them out loud, you have created a safe zone.”
2010
The couple got engaged on their holiday in 2009, but Bell first unveiled their engagement ring on the red carpet in February 2010. Later that year, Bell revealed that she was happy to be able to officially close the date.
“I’ve never loved dating, and I think it’s very uncomfortable to leave myself there and be vulnerable,” she told people. “I’ve been in a relationship that’s so much more comfortable and I’m very happy.”

In an interview with Playboy, Shepherd revealed that his wild past and his relationship with Bell was initially a struggle.

She grew up very Christian, went straight to college, did great things at school and started working quickly. “Everything I did was horrifying to her and she struggled to believe I was married and monogamous and I could stay with my father and all of those things. We were together for the first year and a half.

Bell showed off her baby bump at the Golden Globes in 2013. The couple welcomed their first child, Lincoln Bell, on March 28, 2013.

The couple, who said they wouldn’t marry until a gay couple was given the rights in California, eventually tied the knot in October 2013.
“We wanted the lowest possible day,” she later told Jay Reno about their court wedding. “Then we got a sandwich and called it a day. We called it our wedding brunch.”
October 2014
When she appeared in Conan, Shepherd revealed how close he and Bell are. He explained that his wife helped him prepare for the nude scene in the film.
“The beautiful Kristen Bell, who already doesn’t understand how she’s with me, got the joy of shaving me,” Bell said he was preparing his backside for the film.

In an interview with People, Shepherd revealed the amazing celebrities who pushed him to calm down at the bell.
“The first thing Jason (Bateman) did was ‘Stop everyone around and stop marrying Kristen,” he said. “You quickly moved to ‘get her pregnant.’ I think you were on the forefront of cracking a whip on it.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bell praised her therapy for her happy marriage with Shepherd. She also acknowledged the “growthing pain” at the beginning of their relationship.
“Our relationship wasn’t perfect,” she said. “We had more years of fighting and pain, hating each other, loving each other, going to couples therapy.

In 2016, Shepherd celebrated 12 years of drinking, giving his wife a partial achievement for helping him along the way. In an interview with Ellen, Bell revealed that Shepherd’s struggle encouraged her to help others.
“My husband is recovering and has been calm for almost 13 years,” she said. “Looking the world through his eyes really opened up mine knowing it’s sick and no one chose to drink more than others. They’re doing it for a variety of reasons and they deserve the attention of mental health professionals, not county jail.

At the end of the year, Shepherd looked back at Bell and her first meeting with her friends, telling him good housekeeping to his surprise at their “unlimited happiness.”
“When I met her and her friends, I doubted their unlimited happiness,” he said. “I thought, ‘There’s something stinking here. They’re in the cult.’ ”

Both Bell and Shepherd are open about the beginning of the turbulent turbulence of their relationship. In a 2017 interview with Popsugar, Bell revealed that the couple actually broke up for a short period of time after several months of dating.
“We were dating for about three months and I already knew he was in love with him. He hesitated because he knew he was still dating someone else,” she said. “He sat down to me and said, ‘I don’t have this right now. I think you’re great, but I’m still dating someone else.’ And I liquefyed and fell to the ground, but incredibly respected him having a ball to tell me we weren’t in the same place. ”
Obviously things went well.
She continued: “He called me and said, ‘I don’t know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else, but they weren’t as funny as you and I don’t know what I’m doing,” he returned.

Bell was on the receiver of internet rage after she told Mark Maron that she was openly smoking weed around her calm husband. Shepherd came to her defense on Twitter and said, “It’s like diabetes where your partner expects you to never eat dessert. Become authentic!”

There was a drama for the couple at the end of the year after Julie Andrews’ granddaughter, Katie Edwards, claimed that Shepherd had cheated on Bell with her in 2009. Shepherd denied the claim in an Instagram post.
“Hey, the Daily Mail, that photo is 13, not 9,” he wrote of the photo showing the two kissing. “Kayti also sold stories to Matthew Perry, Jack Osbourne, Kid Rock and now tabloids about me. I look forward to her next thing.

Shepherd opened in an off-camera interview with Sam Jones at the moment he wanted to be with Bell.
“I never said, ‘Oh, I hope we can keep Kristen up,” he said. “I went, do I want to be with the eight Christians who live in her house for free? Who has to get out of the car when there is a dog that doesn’t have a leash to rescue this dog? … What happened is that it could only have happened as it happened, which means she never told me. She never suggested that I should.”

I need to be around it,” Shepherd recalls. “I would like to be around him when I was 80, what do you think?”

She repeated Shepherd’s previous public comments, “I married the opposite polar regions. We are each other’s antithesis. On July 15, the armchair expert host posted a censored nude photo of Bell in a downwardly faced dog yoga pose wearing blue socks on the knees. “You may not know everything that happens behind the scenes to create an Emmy-nominated performance like Kristen.” Congratulations! ! ! ! ! “
This post came just after Bell received the nod of a lead actress who stands out in the comedy series for her role she doesn’t want this. She recognized her honor for her post and shared photos from a Zoom Call with show creator Erin Foster, who responded to the news. “I discovered I was nominated for Emmy. The discovery of @erinfotter has been nominated for Emmy!!!” she wrote.
Shepherd cheered her on again in the comments: “Listen to Stephen Segal’s ‘Struts’ all day long. You got it!!!”

Bell marked Shepherd’s 21st year of drinking with a heartfelt Instagram tribute. On September 4th, she posted a photo of his family with one of the couples sharing a kiss with her daughter. “This is something that looks like 21 years of drinking. Lots of hugs. Hold everyone and everything. Hold life,” she captioned. “Thank you, @daxshepard for staying calm. I’m forever grateful for you. We’re all 💕.”
