The Japanese animated feature film “Chainsaw Man: The Movie” earned $1.8 million from 246,138 viewers on 911 screens, capturing 31.9% of the Korean box office revenue for the second consecutive weekend and topping the Korean box office for the second consecutive week.

According to KOBIS, a tracking service run by the Korean Film Council, the film has currently grossed $16.6 million since its release on September 24. This movie is an adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s hit manga “Reze”. Directed by Tatsuya Yoshiwara and written by Hiroshi Seko, the film depicts Denji’s encounter with cafe clerk Reze, which causes him to be conflicted between intimacy and bloody chaos. Voice actors include Rena Ueda, Ai Fairuz, Tomori Kusunoki, and Maaya Uchida. Sony/Crunchyroll is responsible for market distribution.

The Korean film “Boss” remained in second place with $806,745, increasing its total to $15.3 million after 17 days of release. The action comedy directed by Ra Hee-chan stars Cho Woo-jin as Seung-tae, Jung Kyung-ho as Gang-pyo, Park Ji-hwan as Bang-ho, and Lee Kyuhyun as Tae-gyu. The film, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, centers on gangster underlings who race to avoid being bossed while pursuing their bizarre personal ambitions.

The new film Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Early Death – The Movie opened in third place with $644,696 (89,684 admissions) on 742 screens. This movie, based on the manga by Gege Akutami, depicts the main characters of two magicians, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Shimoto, who are tasked with protecting Riko Tennai, a student who has been chosen as a vessel for star plasma, while being chased by curse users and cults.

Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” came in fourth with $556,055, bringing the total to $19.1 million. Lee Byung-hun plays Man-soo, a laid-off paper manufacturing expert. Mance commits serial murder to eliminate his competitors in search of just one job, but discovers that there is a position to supervise AI testing.

“One Battle After Another” came in fifth place with $388,865 ($3.3 million total).

The Japanese hit “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugenjou” grossed $307,164, bringing its domestic total to $41.5 million. Newcomer “Weapons” came in at No. 7 with $252,186.

Animated “Bread Barbershop: The Bakerytown Baddies” added $97,270 ($1.6 million), followed by “Your Letter,” another animated title, with $106,561 ($1.3 million). Rounding out the top 10 was the AI-powered film “Run to the West,” which grossed $56,302 on 245 screens and 13,004 attendees.

Over the weekend of October 17-19, the top 10 films had a total box office gross of $5.06 million, down from $7.9 million in the previous slot, continuing the gradual decline in South Korean box office receipts after the Chuseok holiday.
