Netflix announced some big announcements from its video games division on Thursday, just as the streamer unveiled a new suite of party games that you can play on your TV using your phone as a controller. These “game night” services marked Netflix’s first major foray into video games, and the service was just experimenting with rolling out a few titles here and there in the market.
The reveal included the upcoming “Knives Out” mystery party game for TV, as well as several new games coming to mobile, including Rockstar’s “Red Dead Redemption” and “Best Guess Live,” a new mystery show-style game hosted by Howie Mandel.
As of Thursday, party games available for TV through the Netflix app include “LEGO Party!,” “Boggle Party,” “Party Crashers,” “Pictionary: Game Night,” and “Tetris Time Warp.”
“Coming Soon” is “Dead Man’s Party: Knives Out Game,” a party game tied to director Rian Johnson’s new “Knives Out” movie “Wake Up Deadman,” scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 12th.
These games come on the heels of Netflix’s streaming rival Amazon releasing a similar lineup of “game night” titles on its cloud gaming service Luna.
“Starting today, you’ll be able to use your phone as a controller to play games on your TV. There’s no setup required and it’s as easy as streaming your favorite shows,” Alan Tuscan, Netflix’s president of games, said at a press event announcing the news in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. “You can now go from watching KPop Demon Hunters to playing Pictionary: Game Night without leaving Netflix. And for those who want to play anytime, anywhere, we’re bringing even more games to your phone with our unique Netflix touch.”

Boggle Party (on sale)
The Boggle you know has some new tricks up its sleeve in Boggle Party. Up to eight players use their phones or tablets to find words among a grid of random letters. Once you find the word, swipe or tap the word. The person who finds the most unique word wins. You can also play solo and work your way down the achievement list while waiting for the rest of your party to arrive.
Lego Party (on sale)
The Lego Party minigame collection is here to test your friendships in a bright and competitive way. If you want to win, walk around the game board and collect as many golden bricks as you can before the rest of the living room gathers. Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends (on sale now)
Who showed up to the party uninvited? It’s up to you and your friends to find the culprit in this outrageous game of deduction and social antics. Party Crashers is for 3 to 6 players, with all but one knowing the secret word for a given round. Invitees give each other hints to explain the secret word. Hints that make sense to those who know the secret word, but confuse outsiders. the goal? Outing others by pretending to know what they are talking about.
Pictionary: Game Night (currently available)
Everyone considers themselves an artist until it’s time to show off your skills in public. Pictionary: Game Night puts you in a race against the clock to decipher your friends and family’s doodles. Speed is key here. Decipher their doodles as quickly as possible if you want to win in this fast-paced party game. Because the faster you guess correctly, the more points you and the Picasso wannabe will earn.
Tetris Time Warp (on sale)
Tetris Time Warp is a universally loved classic with a twist. Clear a row of retro-style tetrominoes to warp to a bonus zone inspired by the game’s 40-year history. Each has its own period-specific rules.
To return to the present, you must complete the mini-challenge before time runs out. Each time warp has its own rules related to the retro era you’re playing in. For example, some versions do not have hard drops, while others limit the rotation of the tetromino.
Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game (Coming Soon)
Benoît Blanc, a world-famous detective, arrives at the house to solve a new murder. At this time?
