HBO’s new Game of Thrones spinoff series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has launched a tie-up with the Zynga mobile game Game of Thrones: Legends, featuring lead characters Ser Duncan the Thor and Egg.
The new addition to Zynga Games, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive on behalf of HBO, was announced during the Sunday premiere of the latest “Game of Thrones” TV spinoff, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.”
The RPG puzzle game features Duncan and Egg as the game’s two new “Champion” options, and already boasts a lineup that includes “GoT” fan favorites like Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Rhaenyra Targaryen.
In the game, players build and command their own Westeros home, strategically assemble a team of champions, equip them with weapons and equipment, and hone their tactics and skills as they face off against fearsome foes from the Game of Thrones universe in puzzle battles.
Sir Duncan will be available starting Wednesday, and Egg will join the game on February 11th as “as a healer, best paired with his protector Sir Duncan for bonus healing and shield abilities.”
According to Zynga, “Sir Duncan the Tall joins as a legendary protector who becomes a vital anchor for the player’s combat team. His skills allow him to retaliate against enemy attacks when the weakest members of the team are attacked, His passive abilities allow him to block incoming attacks from reaching their intended victims. He absorbs damage and buys time for his allies, allowing them to stack damage over time or build up effects like fire.”
On February 4th, Legends will launch a jousting mini-game as part of the Knights of the Seven Kingdoms-inspired in-game event, Tournament of Ashford Plains.
“In the upcoming Ashford Meadow tournament, players will face off against rival knights in a jousting match. They will choose one of three virtues to leverage against their opponent (Speed, Power, Aim) and compete against the rival knight’s own chosen virtue,” Zynga’s description reads. “Once a joust begins, players can either win and move on to another joust and bigger rewards, or lose everything they’ve won so far. The fast-paced experience forces players to make a series of high-risk, high-reward decisions, forcing them to choose whether to continue pursuing greater glory or take home the prize.”
“As the world of Game of Thrones continues to expand, so too is the world we’re building within Game of Thrones: Legends by offering new characters, storylines and gameplay features to our loyal players,” said Yaron Leivand, Executive Producer of Zynga Mobile Games. “With the inclusion of Knights of the Seven Kingdoms, the number of in-game champions will now exceed 150, allowing players to strategically build their ideal homes and battle in real-time against other passionate fans, and experience an authentic personalized story based on Game of Thrones lore.”
Zynga’s mobile game Game of Thrones: Slots will also begin a tie-up with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The month-long takeover event, dubbed “Twilight Tournament,” will run throughout January and give players “the opportunity to participate in new themed content, rewards, and special quests focused on Ser Duncan as he begins his adventures in the Game of Thrones universe.”
