Burns & Company Entertainment is partnering with Fathom Entertainment to distribute U.S. theaters for Jimmy, the new film about Oscar-winning film legend Jimmy Stewart. The film will be released nationwide on November 6th with a traditional theatrical release.
Starring KJ Apa of ‘Riverdale’ fame as Stewart, the film depicts one of the most important periods in the actor’s life, from his Academy Award winning role in ‘The Philadelphia Story’ to his service as a combat pilot and commander in World War II. Stewart flew 20 missions over Europe and rose to the rank of colonel, but returned home mentally exhausted. Then, the role of George Bailey in “It’s a Wonderful Life” came along.
The all-star cast includes Kara Kilmer (Chicago Fire) as Lady Julia; Neal McDonough (Justified) plays Stewart’s father Alexander. Max Casella (“Tulsa King”) as Frank Capra. Jason Alexander (“Seinfeld”) as Louis B. Mayer. Christopher McDonald (“Happy Gilmore”) as Lionel Barrymore. Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy) plays Hedda Hopper. Rob Riggle (“Step Brothers”) as Colonel Terrill. Julian Works (9-1-1: Lone Star) as Ensign Martinez. Gemma Donovan (“Neighbours”) as Ginger Rogers. Jen Lilly (“Days of Our Lives”) plays Gloria Stewart. The film was directed by Aaron Burns (Beyond the Mask) from a script by Justin Strawhand (The Mistakers).
“We’re excited to partner with Fathom for the U.S. distribution of ‘Jimmy.’ The Fathom team has the passion and commitment to excellence that we really look for in a theatrical partner,” Burns said. “We are honored to have Jimmy widely released to audiences across the country, not only because it is a film for all audiences, but because it is an inspiration to Americans and a reminder of the importance of the true heroes like Jimmy Stewart among us.”
“Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to partner with Burns & Company to bring Jimmy, the captivating and moving story of America’s iconic actor Jimmy Stewart, to the big screen,” Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt added, adding that the film is “a special film full of real heart and great acting from a remarkable ensemble cast that brings to life the Golden Age of Hollywood and the battlefields of World War II.”
Fathom also announced that it will be reviving “It’s a Wonderful Life” in theaters starting December 18th to commemorate its 80th anniversary.
Nutt will host APA and debut footage from “Jimmy” to attendees of CinemaCon, the annual movie theater industry conference held in April, in a prepared address at the filmmakers’ luncheon program on April 16.
