Kit Harington and Sophie Turner are reuniting for the first time since playing siblings on HBO’s Game of Thrones for eight seasons, but it’s an awkward family reunion in the new film The Dreadful.
The two play lovers in Lionsgate’s gothic horror film, the first trailer of which has just been released. The logline reads: “Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington reunite to experience a chilling gothic horror story starring Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden. Set in medieval England, Anne and her domineering stepmother Morwen struggle to survive on the fringes of society. But when a man from Anne’s past returns from the war, a curse begins to take shape through a mysterious knight that threatens to destroy them all. ”
Harington and Turner both talked about the strangeness of playing Jon Snow and Sansa Stark’s lovers in their first movie together after playing brothers Jon Snow and Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones.
“She was the one who sent me the movie, but for some reason she didn’t see what I saw in it,” Kit previously told E! news. “I thought, ‘These guys are lovers, right?'” I found that very strange. But it was a great opportunity to be with her again and work with her…She’s about a foot taller than me, so it was a little embarrassing having to climb onto the apple box to kiss her. But apart from that, my dignity was completely intact. ”
He added, “What was great was being on set together and completely rekindling our friendship. It felt like we were together as a family. It really was.”
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Turner said: “So I sent Kit the script and he messaged me back like, ‘Yeah, I’d like to do that, but it’s going to be really weird, Soph.'” And I thought, “What is he saying?” Then I was reading[the script]and I was like, “Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex…” and then I was like, “Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.” We put that out of our minds and when we get to the set, it’s our first kissing scene and we’re both gagging. Really, that’s despicable. It was the worst. ”
“The Dreadful” will be released in theaters on February 20th.
