Jimmy Kimmel watered down Donald Trump’s State of the Union address in a late-night monologue Tuesday, sarcastically summarizing his thoughts on the president’s 108-minute “rambling” speech by saying, “I have to say, Trump’s dementia really makes me miss Joe Biden’s dementia. It was a much friendlier dementia.”
The late-night host was particularly appalled by President Trump’s accusation that Somali residents in Minnesota are “looting America.” Trump urged those in attendance to stand if they agreed that “the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” but he did not address how government-backed ICE agents were involved in the shooting deaths of American citizens Renee Good and Alex Preti in Minnesota earlier this year.
“Shame on you for not standing up!” Trump told the Democrats, who remained seated. “These people are crazy, I’m telling you, they’re crazy.”
“This is the real State of the Union, okay? There’s a madman who’s become a king, doing everything he can to censor the voices he doesn’t want to hear. He’s having his minions arrest, imprison, and kill Americans. He’s cutting funding for cancer research and children’s hospitals, all while raking in literally billions of dollars for himself and his family. He’s protecting the pedophiles.”And he doesn’t try to explain it, but he’s lining the pockets of billionaires while ignoring the sick, the poor, and the hungry.By the way, who’s reading the Donald Trump version of God Bless You, which is made in China and available for $99.99?
“If you babble almost incoherently for two hours, is it still technically a speech, or does it turn into a conviction at some point?” Kimmel later quipped.
Kimmel regularly uses his late-night monologue to condemn Trump’s actions. “This is the guy who paid a porn star to spank his face in a magazine,” he said of the president, who earlier this month complained that Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show was not broadcast primarily in English.
