Kim Kardashian’s face mask got all the attention at Saturday night’s Academy Museum Gala, but her makeup team wasn’t as thrilled with her wardrobe styling.
Kardashian appeared that night wearing Maison Margiela Couture, a nude-toned dress with a corseted waist.
Her neck was covered in a layer of jewelry, while her face was completely hidden by a beige translucent face covering.
On the red carpet, Kardashian revealed to Variety that not only was she wearing a full face of makeup underneath her obtrusive mask, but that she also had a makeup artist fly across the country specifically for the event to join hairstylist Chris Appleton.
“I flew in my favorite makeup artist, Mario[Dedivanovic]from New York, and I’m sure he wasn’t too happy about it because it was sort of a last-minute thing,” Kardashian said.
However, she added that she intended to remove her face mask inside the gala so that Dedivanovic’s flawless work could actually be seen.
In an Instagram video, Ms. Kardashian’s team, Ms. Dedivanovic and Ms. Appleton, joked, “I feel like our work spoke for itself today. The creative talent was on me…and the faces were crazy…I don’t think people were ready for this…” at which point they turned their cameras on Ms. Kardashian and added, “Masks? Masks?”
Appleton added on her Instagram, “Behind every masked moment, there’s a glam squad crying silently 🥹.”
The 44-year-old is quite the fan of face coverings, and made headlines at the 2021 Met Gala when he opted for an all-black Balenciaga look complete with a mask.
When Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper interviewed Kardashian last week, he asked her about her infamous look, whether she took it off, ate it, drank it or showed her face to anyone all night.
Kardashian said “no” to all of them. “I was committed.” “It was for fashion,” she added.
The mother of four seems to have become a little more forgiving as the years have gone on, allowing her traditional charm to shine by taking off her latest high fashion mask.
Kardashian also revealed to Cooper that she estimates her annual glam budget “could be $1 million,” which made this weekend’s makeup look seem like even more of a missed opportunity.
