Did she forget to pack a bikini?
On Sunday night, Kim Kardashian shared a series of photos on Instagram from a recent trip to Rio de Janeiro to promote her latest project, Hulu’s “All’s Fair.”
And she opted for an ivory Conor Ives dress with side cutouts and feathers for the show’s Brazilian premiere, but then changed into something more delicate for a nighttime dip in the sea.
The shared photo shows Kardashian splashing around in the surf wearing an iconic vintage Alexander McQueen dress made from draped nude-toned chiffon.
“Shipwrecked in Rio,” she captioned the upload.
The dress was originally released as part of the designer’s Spring 2003 collection, which drew inspiration from the sea, including pirates and “drowned maidens,” as Vogue described it at the time.
As the models walked down the runway, a movie played in the background, including a frame of a model wearing Kardashian’s dress floating on the ocean floor.
The reality star’s choice to literally take this historic chiffon dress out to sea is questionable. Especially since it was one of the iconic looks selected for the late designer’s 2011 retrospective exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”
This isn’t the first time the multihyphenate has drawn from this same collection.
At the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Kardashian wore McQueen’s iconic Oyster dress. The gown was reportedly a gift from her then-husband, Kanye West, and is one of only two ever produced.
Sadly, it seems like zero percent of her followers are stressed about the fate of her latest vintage look. Instead, the comments were filled with fire emojis and hysterical reminders of “my diamond earrings” when she lost the studs in the water while on vacation with her family.
Apparently not caring about the historic design, her sister Chloe added her two cents in the comments, writing: “You must be really weird to be in water like that at night! It’s super dark outside in the photo!! How are you doing?”
The collection’s inspiration doesn’t exactly mean that its looks are meant to be literally taken to sea, so we can only hope that the Kardashians have the world’s best dry cleaning on speed dial.
